I guess it is welders talk/slang, you get it more with the old stick welders.
 
While I am not a pro welder, my profession used to be auto body and frame repair (45 years). I had to know how to weld. In the late 60's , early 70's it was arc and gas&brass welding. When I worked in a shop that fixed semi-trucks and trailers, it was heli-arc. Late 80's and on, it was mig. Now heli-arc will test anyone's mettle..yeeeehaaaw, talk about getting your heat set right, man those were some of the biggest holes I ever made, even bigger than learning how to gas weld. So I am no stranger to welding talk, it's just that I have not heard everything yet.....NGE
