Should we tell em??

& I agree with most of what you said. But, if people sold off Excels & C$'s just because there's no small coil I think that's kind of a weak excuse. I do real well in trash with the 8's & find plenty that others missed (including myself with other units). There are little tricks you can use to Git R dun including raising the coil to make the cone smaller, etc. I've said many times to unmask in trash, it's an art form that takes TONS of practice, patience, & trial & error. I constantly stare at the screen looking for (+) signs, & sweep from many directions trying to isolate "iffy" signals, try all metal & various setting changes. Sometimes I'll just dig a hole where I saw a plus sign sneak in. Sometimes It's junk, other times something like a button in with a square nail. I really doubt if the folks who sold them did half of what I just mentioned. So.....All's I can say...if ever a smaller coil comes to be for any of the digital big 3...just Look out! Cellar holes here are all square nail infested.
But, it's a known fact that larger coils sell twice as good as small ones. So, if someone ever does make a small coil, I sure hope it's not all just talk & people will actually buy them like they do with the 10.5" (not make more lame excuses & complain about price, etc).

and unfortunately, sales volume of a smaller coil may very well not meet manufacturers expectations. Hopefully it will but the thing of it is, and I know businesses just HATE this arguement, a lot of consumers' choices are and will continue to be based partly on SPECULATION. All (well most) detectorists have finite amounts of time and money to spend on the hobby. Barring the ones that are exclusively brand loyal, the rest will go through some analytical process to decide on what to buy next. Performance and flexibility are certainly at the top of the typical criteria list. A detector will probably not do well in the flexibility part compared to other similarly performing detectors that have many accessory coils available. Another example is Sun Ray probes. Ralph is gonna be fully aware of how may probes he sells, but no one will be able to quantify just how many detectors sold at least partly because there was an inline probe available for it. If the coils (and or probes) aren't available I'm quite sure there are important lost, albeit unquantifiable, sales.

I agree with you Bill for the most part. The coinstrike Is the Best detector in trash with a 8" coil, I would say its better than most detectors with a small coil attached. I do believe That With the c$ and the stock coil you have to work harder in trash. I will say most guys doent have the patients to work those areas in the manor That you do. We both know That the c$ with a small coil would make things much more productive and effecient and save a lot of time

I'd always read the reports and thought "that would be fun".

Come to find out it is work. I don't think most people think of field testing as work, but it is. You have to put aside all your other detecting plans and detectors and focus on one. Everything has to be reported on. Finally after 4 or 5 months, and its released to the market and you feel a responsiblity to get as much infomation out about it as you can. Finally at the end, a few more folks will get them in hand and you can back off and relax and pick up where you left off 5 months ago.

Do they need to be handpicked. I'd say yes. Not because you want a certain outcome, but because you need someone that take some ownership and will follow through the whole process.

if one came out for the C$, I doubt I would buy one or use it. To me the C$ does quite well in trashy areas. If you ever notice, there are small coils constantly being advertised on the forums for sale. I look at small coils as kind of like fruit cakes at Christmas time, they keep gettin passed around as gifts until someone either eats it (doubtful) or it's used as a door stop. Majority of the small coils you see for sale on the classifieds are always like new, barely used. Why is that? because it's such a pain to have to walk back to your vehicle and waste valuable hunt time switching out coils, which are a real pain on Fishers with those 7' coil cables.

I like a lot of folk would rather continue the hunt and just take our time in the trashy spots and then post our like new, barely used small coils on the classieds and pass them along to someone else, who will mostlikely do the same thing when the realization hits that the small coil spends more time in the closet then on a detector.

:twodetecting:Not using a 5"coil on a CZ. Sure brings out some nice stuff in these old trashy parks. I have a hunting buddy who has two CZ's, one with the standard coil, one with the 5", he don't like to change coils, he just changes machines, LOL.----Wade

I also Know you have used The Sunray probe as a small coil...On your cz and GTI ....so you have showed me that there is more of an importance for a small coil. Hahahahahahahahahahaha !! I could go on bud but i will stop.

will really help. The standard coil is a might large for some of the areas that I want to hunt with the GTi. I'm hoping it will make a difference in these areas, if I don't see a big difference, then the small coil will be passed along just like another fruit cake.
