even though you are proficient with them,
ya gotta be careful when "showing" any type of shovel in a park like setting!
people have a tendency to make the "wrong" connection when seeing a "shovel"
in a park! better to use a lesche,or even a screwdriver,as it's less "intimidating"

Take a video of yourself when fixing his holes and show it to him.

Also, if you can get him on film doing the damage, tell him you will turn him in if he doesn't change his BAD and CARELESS back filling ways, or just turn him in anyway.

If that doesn't work, take a bat to his detector and say "your next if you keep it up, I'm tired of telling ya".

Hey YOU, friend of earthmansurfer, glad you are not here in the U.S. detecting I'll tell you that. The way you back fill the holes you dig is a sin and disrespectful. If I came across you in a park I would show you the proper way to fill the holes. Then I would ask you to go back and fix the ones you dug. If you refused, I would call the Park Rangers without hesitation. I'd even follow you to your car and get your plate number. If you got a little froggy, I'd kick your a$$. Straighten up boy!

We're seeing some of the same thing on beaches here in FL. Last time on Daytona a gent with very expensive beach gear and a stealth scoop was leaving unfilled moon craters behind him. He even started next to a manned life guard tower. I chatted with the life guard and made sure he understood most of us are not like that fool. If I see it again it's going to be time for a friendly chat. Beach or not, it's not that hard to fill your holes!

You can always tell the ones who really could care less if they get to detect or not. Your friend has no respect for you and your hobby. He's just out to grab and go even if it means taking you and the hobby down with him. You should have a serious talk with the guy. If he continues to do it, make every efort to convince him all places are hunted out.

To boot, I gave him a shovel and pinpointer and he just uses the shovel and cuts the plugs in half, again and again " YOU GAVE HIM A SHOVEL!!!!! what were you thinking ! unbelieveable thats like breaking rule number 1 using a freaking shovel .You just set this endangered hobby and all those that enjoy it on the extinction list. I'm sorry but this pisses me off big time You can use a screwdriver,a knive,a small trowel,a digging soil knife etc. BUT A DAM SHOVEL !!!! :veryangry: Take that shovel break it in front of him !!! wrape it around his neck ! hit em with it !!! used ta use a shovel to dig trenches to find old lead water pipes
that was around 6' down,however don't use one to find a coin in a park.
if i was a passer by,and saw someone using a "shovel" to dig a hole in a
mowed park,i would think that person needed a" Phsyco analysis!" (w.t.f!)
