I have a shadow detector.I have had it a long time. The knobs got corroded and when I turned the knobs I broke the wires on the the inside of the box.I took it to a dealer. He says that its not worth fixing and if he sent it in it would be at least 200.bucks Is there any place that would fix it for less.I cant believe soldering a few wires and putting a couple of wires would cost that much. Thanks. Vicki Adams

I have never owned a Troy detector, but if I were you I would got on the phone with the guys at Tesoro and talk to them. They built the thing.

Corroded knobs doesn't sound good, why are the knobs corroded ?, could be more problems with corrosion inside the housing, I would call Troy metal detectors and ask them what a overhaul would cost.

Hi Quizpro, The Troy Shadow X2 is built by Tesoro,(X5&3 by Fisher) and is covered under Tesoro's lifetime Warranty, same as any Tesoro. You say you have had it for a long time so you know most of it's history. Even if you bought it early on from someone else, Tesoro still repairs their detectors regardless of how many owners, and most always at no charge. This is a well known fact known by all long time Tesoro owners(and Troy X2 owners) Corroded Knobs does not sound good and gives way to some question of the detector being submerged in salt water, or some other mishap. Call Tesoro and tell them your story, and whether or not the problem was caused by neglect or by a simple accident, Tesoro will most likely have a truthful and simple solution,(and most likely free) that will certainly be much better than what your "Dealer" has suggested. His "Deal" for you flat out sucks, as he should be telling you the same thing I am telling you.Call Tesoro and speak to Rusty Henry if you can get him and get an honest assesment of the problem, and take it from there.Tesoro has haways treated their folks right, and it pays off for everyone. HH, Charlie

Great Info by fowlercharles...The Troy Shadows are way too nice machines to not have repaired...Tesoro should get the Shadow back @ the ground again. I have heard of Nice X2's going for $$350 and up...

I will call them Monday.I cant believe this guy told me it wasnt worth fixing. He used to be a tesoro dealer and he told me they allways fixed thier products. Also when I bought it from him it was used so I got no warrenty. Will that make a difference? Thanks. Vicki

Warranties are non transferable,Best of Luck Hank.

Hi Quizpro, glad you didn't miss these posts about howTesoro truly does treat folks right.Far as I know, and I have been using Tesoro since the INCA came out around 83 or 84,and have bought 3 "new" Tesoros, one, a Troy X2 and several times "used" Tesoros 2 for Grand kids, and have had most all of them , including the X2 back to Tesoro at least once. Sometimes only for re tuning or calibrating to a certain coil, or just a "checkup". Can't remember ever paying a dime for any of it except for shipping back to Tesoro. And they usually send any small parts like nuts bolts screws, some times battery holders at no charge. They replaced a battery door on my Inca at no charge years ago.So like I said far as I know, and I have not heard any different stories from anyone else. It has been pretty much that way since Tesoro opened their doors and the Warranty particulars don't really come into play unless it is obvious that someone has purposefully been neglectful or abusive with their detector. You should be good to go, with a simple phone call and they can get you fired up and digging.again.And, find yourself another "dealer". There are plenty of "good guys " here on the forums that are well known and can be trusted to suggest a "real" dealer for you. HH, Charlie

Hi Hank, I am curious to know how many Tesoros, or X2s' you may happen to own, and have maybe sent back to Tesoro for repairs? HH, Charlie

I never had to send back none of mine, amigo2, siver sabre, cutlass, silver umax, shadow x2, why ask?

Because your reply to Quizpro would lead folks to believe that Tesoro does not repair or do any maintenance work at all on their detectors because the Warranty is not Transferable, and that is just not so. If you didn't already, please read my post and maybe it will explain to you why though your initial statement about what Tesoro Warranty does in fact state,is true ,"Thankfully", Tesoro early on began to disregard that statement and take care of their detectors regardless of that Warranty statement. The truth is as I voiced it in my post from years(27) of personal experience(with Tesoro) and that of others I know,. Tesoro does do such service/maint/whatever even though the Warranty statement says what it says.Mighty fine crew of Tesoros you have Hank, and mighty fine too I would think to learn now that you can send any of them back, new or used that need be in for maint./ repair/ or whatever and it will likely cost only shipping to Tesoro. Don't get any better than that does it? I love them old Ts' too, cause they get the job done! HH, Charlie

I didn't say that wouldn't repair it, just not a warranty job, Best of Luck, Hank.

I have done bussiness since 2001 and hes never done me wrong. He traded a garrette detector fo my conquistador which I bought when they first came out.I wish I had it back because I dont like this garrette and I have a silver sabre too.I bought it at a yard sale for 150.I like the shadow and tesoros much more than this ace.I bought another garrette at a yard sale for 7 dollors and 50 cents.Same thing cant touch my tesoros.I gave it to my son and h loves itI still havent got to call the co. yet but I will.I hate to loose the best detector I ever had. Thanks a lot for your help.I appreciate everyone on here. They are so helpful. Vicki

Hope you get it fixed, they are a good detector I just wished I never sold mine! Needed the money! Best of Luck. Hank.

Hi Amberjack, Nope, Troy doesn't make them any more but once in a while one will show up for sale or trade on a Forum or ebay.Still lots of folks hoping Troy will yet come out with another machine, as was thought to be in the works, Most all us know it is no easy thing at present, nor is it likely to be a wise thing to do with the ecconomic situation so uncertain. Plenty of Info and Tips on how to use the Shadows out there too, and that comes in handy for someone lucky enough to latch onto one now. All you have to do is Google which Troy Shadow you are interested in and there are several sites that will come up. HH, Charlie
