Settings for a faster sweep speed?

CoiltoSoil

New member
What settings should I adjust if I have a faster sweep speed? Not super fast but I like to cover ground. It seems like the stock settings are made for slow sweeps?

Howdy CoilToSoil--

I would fine tune the Filter setting and Recovery Delay to suit your physical sweep speed. If you have a test garden, that would be a help in finding the ideal settings. The higher filter settings are most suited for a faster sweep speed and on your recovery delay setting , the lower #'s are for faster recovery. I hope that helps. Best of luck and...

Thanks! I wasn't sure, the manual didn't really say if lower or higher was for a faster sweep speed. So I'll make sure to lower that.

Remember.... Recovery DELAY.... the lower the number the SHORTER the delay.... The bigger the number the LONGER the delay.

Also here is a link that may help you with coils , filters , and sweep speeds.

Use a higher filter, rather than a low one. Of course IMHO a faster swing can miss targets. Set two coins about 2" wider than your coil. Now swing at your normal swing speed. Adjust your RD until you can read both coins.

Recovery delay would change the effect of longer beep on the detector and shorter beep. That means longer beep slow recovery and shorter beep faster recovery. If you have a slow it will make more time responding on a target and it might get a deeper target better and a fast when you are in a trashy area where targets might be next to junk and you want it to start responding and ending quickly.

I'd set the filter up if a faster swing is needed, but I like to go slow so I run 5 just so I can take my time

You are correct - raise the filters. But I'm with you Tab-Nabit : Low and Slow! CoilToSoil asked which adjustment(s) to make to accommodate his hunting style. Shucks, half of the fun of having a new detector is figuring out what settings are best for a specific hunting goal and how each adjustment affects performance. The V3i is a great detector when it's fine tuned to style and ground. Best of luck and...

Thanks guys, the targets where I hunt are few and far between sometimes so I like to hunt and cover a lot of ground, and I have attention issues and have to keep on the move haha. I'd like to get a similar sweep speed to my old XLT's, the speed worked well for me. I'm going to test out the difference between the 10 and 12 filter in the field this weekend hopefully and see which one works best for me.
