Selling my six inch and going for the seventeen

It didn't make sense for me to hold on to the sixer. I primarily hunt open wooded areas and fields so, the more I can cover the better.
I had the large coil for the Etrac and did well with it, so I am hoping for great results with this one.

I really like mine. I've had it a little over 2 weeks and been out four times with it. Got 7 silver coins and two silver rings on those four hunts. It works well in moderate trash and I've definitely seen an increase in depth. There's no telling what you'll bring up with one over your way!

Thanks for the report Mason! My time to detect is limited these days, so the more ground I can cover the better.

Gary, you will love the 17" more coverage = more targets. The overlap and target seperation is great.

Great to hear Jon! Can't wait to get out with it. What is it, actually five inches longer than stock?

Ha... It has to be close to twice the surface area...

Gary, if you don't have a swing harness I would recommend the Pro Swing 45. I started having tennis elbow and shoulder issues before I got my harness. You will want to swing the 17 all day every day :detecting:

I hear you... My wife is already eyeing it for my birthday in October

I think it would have some effect but it is probably negligible. I know that I ran the large coil with the e track and noticed no battery life difference

How does that effect the battery with larger coil as compared to the standard coil? Just curious...

I have not noticed a reduction in battery life using the 17.

Gary, I sold my 17". I didn't like it and the added weight made my 6-10 hour detecting days that much more difficult. There is no depth difference and my biggest problem was that shallow targets come up as deeper targets. So a 3" coin read 4-5" on the screen. I made a profit on mine so I was happy/

Wow a profit! That's awesome! If I did most of my hunting in parks I would have kept the six inch where a lot has to do with the the detector AND the detectorist being able to discern between close proximity good and bad targets, but like I had said most of my hunting is the woods, and fields, where it is more up to the luck of having your coil over the right place on that hundred acres of land.

Can't say I am looking forward to the extra weight, but I don't get out for any long period hunts these days anyhow so I should be alright. As far as the depth inaccuracy, If it sounds like a coin or another type of good target where I am I dig it regardless since the fields being turned over could mean a KG on the surface and a Wheat nine inches down.

I am still confused about the depth capabilities. At first glance I would think it would be the same as the stock coil since it is a double D, but I remember on the E-trac running air tests and finding that the larger coil I had outperformed the stock coil. Yes, I know that an air test is not the same as real world conditions, but it should at the least give us a clue as to what it is really capable of.

Thoughts on that folks?

Gary, so far the 6" and 17" have about the same depth as the stock coil. I am not a beach hunter so I rarely dig a foot down so the 17" may be better for the beach. The 6" has just as good target separation as the stock coil IF you pay attention and listen.

Someone else had mentioned that the six was just as good as the stock as far as separation goes... I ended up with it because I needed a coil quick when I had to send the stock in for replacement and that was what was available. Anyhow, I am looking forward to swinging seventeen inches around....

That is huge! Mine is sitting at home waiting for me while I am here at work... :(

You guys are pretty much right about the depth all though I seem to dig a little deeper with the 17'', but it's best used on big open places like the beaches I detect.
