SEF back in place...Scores a King!

After about a month of using the D2, I decided I still like my SEF 12"x10" much more. It is much quieter at high gains and easier to GB. I guess it is possible that my D2 is just faulty, but I have had it for two years so there is not much I can do at this point.

Anyway, I finally got back to the overgrown field I hit over the summer. At that time I could only detect the pathways because of the thick vegetation. It is still overgrown, so I bushwhacked swinging the coil between high wild grasses and young trees. It was not easy! In the past I dug a bunch of buttons and a few older coins (a Barber dime, a Large Cent). I have been saying to my buddies that there had to be Spanish Silver there and I was correct! I got a good signal at 6 inches that was just a bit low for a Wheatie with a VDI of 60. I was still thinking it was going to be a penny until I saw the silvery edge in the dirt pile. What an awesome surprise! It's my best coin find in quite some time!

Ya Baby! I wish that that stuff would show up around here................. Good for you and may that area yield more.

Nice to see those finds of yours Neil. Nice old silver. You keep my hope up as lately the finds have been few for me (2 coins in 2 trips!).

Quick question for you - Do you find the detector balances better with the D2 or the SEF? (Basically which is lighter as the D2 seems heavy for it's size.)

Keep up the good hunts,
Albert

He is a beauty Neil, congratulations. If your D2 is bad I would think White's will still take care of it. Worth the call anyway.

I think they are both about equal. I also have an Excalibur, which is much heavier even with the modified shaft, so the V3i is a pleasure to swing.

Thanks for the advice, Larry! I will give them a call next week.

You were right Larry! A new D2 is on the way!

Next trip is gonna require the shooter!

If you have the 5.3, see how that works too. It does help me and keeps me from having to re-position my whole upper torso (for a 90% cross check) on hills and in the rough. Another good thing to have set up is a shorty rod with the shooter. I lobbed off 3" (from the standard rod) and have it attached to my Classic III Plus arm-cup shaft assembly. (This works awesome for tight and convoluted project areas like overgrown embankment walls, upended tree root balls etc.) I haven't had to use it since last winter.....brush is dying back here now and a lot of places are opening up.....dang blackberry bushes keep you "out" in the summer. Congats on the D2!
