See If Your Tesoro Can Pass This Test.

Hi Texadillo. I went outside and tried my Wilson "Coin Select" on a 1906 Barber quarter laying on the grass with a bent square nail on top of the quarter . Also happened to be standing under the power line going into my house. Anyway the Wilson hit hard on the quarter at "several" (elbow bending bunch) inches! I went back inside and did like the video and the "Coin Select" got real quiet with the nail on books over the quarter. I sure hope someone comes along and proves me wrong, but I have tried same test before and had the same results. I have heard others say that the other older Wilson Coin and Relic was a better( different) machine. Also heard it said they were the same.?? I can say though that as for me ,my Coin Select did not pass. Next test will be in the dirt, where it needs to be. I guess I have to go and try my Compadre 5.75 again because it didn't pass either. Someone said their's did. That is great! Tried several other T's and they did not pass either. That is very interesting about the DD coils dong so well! Did not try my TJ 10 X5(DD) yet, but will! Big surprise was after trying the Compass Coin Hustler "8" and (of course) it passed, I tried the HAYS MK II and it blew my mind. Inside test on the nail ,books quarter just like the others I set it "silent" on the edge of threshold and it Passed with surprising depth(air) over the nail. I set it up with the regular buzz/hum and it gave even more depth as it should be expected. All that remains to be seen meaning anything unless it happens in the dirt but it is fun playing with it inside and taking a break now and then with some coffee and a cookie, instead of being outside feeding Mosquitos ! HH, Y'all Charlie
Hey thanks! I have one in the van that's been just laying there for years. My Hayes kept going out of tune and I got tired of constant retuning.

Hi slingshot, yeah the constant retuning is just the nature of the Beast I think with most all of those 100 KHz machines. Some have a few more knobs for finer tuning and processing but at best are still a handful to operate. I know the Hays and the Viking (UK)machines were advertised much for children's use , which I thought a bit much for the young ones but then again they probably adapted better than I was thinking they would. The way they cut trough the masking makes them worth the trouble though, in certain places, and we always have our newer machines to fall back on after we get our fill of the beast. HH, Charlie

Ha! Just realized- I said the Compasses were 15 khz- I meant 100 kHz! So this is what it's like after 65!:surrender:

Hi Charlie,

I appreciate you taking the time and giving the results of your masking test with the Wilson Coin Select and Tesoro's:thumbup: I think with the VLF units and target masking a lot depends on the angle the coil is swept over the targets as to whether you get a signal/partial signal or no signal? In other words...maybe if you approached the targets from a different angle you may get a signal, "iffy" type signal or possibly no signal at all depending on how the trash is situated with the good target at that particular angle of search? As for the DD coils doing well on some of the tests...maybe the angle they were swept over the targets along with that thinner slice of coil search pattern signal was able to better isolate a reading between the trash/good target? I primarily use concentric type coils here in Texas because of the mild soil and the fact that they are known to discriminate better than DD coils in the trash overall. I think more times than not the reason a lot of places are never hunted out is because of target masking issues of some kind. Best of luck to you and HH!

Randy

yep don't dig it all don't find it all, and having said that its impossible to dig it all but we sure can have fun trying.

Hi Randy, I went last night and read up some more on another forum where someone( think he is from Texas too) that used both the Wilson Coin Select and The Relic and Coin said in comparing them that they were the same, one as good as the other .I also read that the Coin Select was supposed to be results of the refinements and updates of all Mr. Wilson's machines. It would stand to reason then "hopefully" that the Coin Select should be able to pass any test the R &C could pass. My thoughts about the concentric coils are exactly as yours! I have only one DD coil and that is the 10 X 5 for the TJ. I got it 3 or so years ago in hopes that it might pull something else from an1808 home site that was loaded with potential but was not giving up much. I have to say though that the DD did just as I hoped and nailed a really sweet 1812( or earlier) Eagle button from only 5-6" from a little piece of dirt that had been pounded by myself and 2 others with at least 5-6 other machines. Mostly by me and the TJ with the 9X8 and 5.75 Con. coil. Oh yeah for sure it could have been we never came at it at the right angle /direction but it was some rough dirt with lots of nails and iron and the TJ screamed when I came over it with the DD. That said I'm going to have to lean toward it being the DD. Like you though I still prefer the Con. coils and most of my dirt is mild too so if I feel the need of a DD, I will just fire up that TJ and get after it! HH, Charlie

This will make you feel a little better slingshot! I was sitting in the dentist chair last week and of course it had been a long while since I had been there. Been knowing each other for a real long time and he asked me how old I was now?. Well , I told him I was 88 then he says no way was I that old. By then I was thinking he is right, I" ain't that old", and all of a sudden was trying to remember just how old I really was. Having had a birthday not long ago was not helping my thought process much! I managed to gather some of my marbles up and convinced us both I was 78 and not 88 and we had a good laugh! Lol, so yeah, that's pretty much what its like after 65 . I'm sure I'm probably not the one to coin the phrase originally but I can say I'm the first I ever heard say "getting old is not for sissies"! So,,,, If you haven't done it by time you get there(old) you better tuff up quick, cause you gona need all of it you can get! HH, Charlie

Know the feeling. LOL. Last month I was filling out a form and was asked my age. I told them 67 and my wife immediately corrected me. "You're 68!"
