O.K. I just spent the entire day on Boliver Beach near Galveston.
This is the 5th trip to the beach since I been here.
First let me say that I AM NOT a salt beach hunter but since I am working in this area for awhile I thought I would become one.
Boliver, Galveston area beaches are WET WET WET sand beaches.
There is no Dry Sand anywhere.
I first started a few weeks ago with the 12x10 SEF coil, and all though I found some clad change, on the beach this coil is too heavy and with the salt program it can be a bear to pinpoint. Thus I switched to the 5.3 Eclipse and the more I use this coil the more I like it. It is a PERFECT match for the V3 and the Salt Beach Program.
First let me say that the V3 EATS UP Salt beaches.
The Salt Beach program works great with factory settings.
The only thing I have changed is turn the backlight off (if it was even on) And lowered the RX gain to 5 (analyze said 12 best but that is way too much)
I also used Grey Ghost headphones and would suggest if you have lost the Plug cover to use plug headphones to prevent sand from sneaking into the control box.
The 5.3 eclipse is plenty coil for the beaches. Hunting beaches can be overwhelming to the beginner beach hunter, so much beach and so little time. But I realized it is just another area I am about to hunt, and the best way to find good targets is to dig more targets. Pinpointing is part of a quick dig and the 5.3 pinpoints like a champ.
Also, the 5.3 in wet sand will nail a coin at 13 inches no problem.
And an Aluminum beer can at 18+ inches... trust me, I measured.
In this program Iron is obvious and with Ike and Rita these beaches have plenty.
Most iron is only a bump in the threshold but some will scatter a signal across both screens and in sound.
Dig it if you like to build your confidence but soon you will know before you dig.
Something I have learned about the salt program, and I am not a Electronic guru or anything but the 2.5 (green) frequency does not dominate for any at all for clad. I found no silver yet so I can not say for certain on that. But ALL CLAD dimes and Quarters are definitely Blue dominate.
Beer Bottle Caps come in STRONG Audibly and on the Blue Frequency but on the Red and Green they are a squiggly mess.. does not take long to I.D. one of those either...
The smallest pieces of aluminum can really sound sweet.. I dig everyone.
I done some testing on gold jewelry that I planted and really cannot tell the difference between Gold and some aluminum when its in the wet sand.
I will however tell you this, some aluminum does not show solid bars. It will show up on all three frequency's but will offset on the 2.5 green as stronger or weaker.
Gold however during my test always comes across as a SOLID Line up on the spectrograph.. every time.
My gold chain experiment shows spattering on the spectrograph in some directions. But I was always able to get a line up of the frequencies from at least one direction... some aluminum won't do that.
The gold jewelry I tested came in low VDI's 8,9,10,14, All under 20.
Aluminum pull-tabs come solidly in 20's
But this really is not an issue on these beaches.. yes None of us like to dig aluminum, but on these beaches with a proper scoop the diggin ain't bad and for the most part and due to the V3 recognizing Iron every time its not a big deal. Dig all the solid tones.
The only tones I quit diggin were the Beer Bottle cap I described earlier.
Before I actually stopped diggin them I did a test, the next 10 caps I find if I cannot positively ID them before I dig, I will continue to dig them.
First 10 I came across I I.D.d 100%
That was enough proof to me to let them lay .... and move on.
Now, I have proven something else to myself on this beach.
As you know I am practically diggin everything that does not resemble a bottle cap or iron. and Guess what?
My Nickel Count increased DRAMATICALLY !!
I found a BUNCH of nickels the last couple weeks...
Have I actually struck gold yet on these beaches? no not yet.
But I have hoards of Clad and a handfull of spent shell casings.. either there are some serious gang fights on this beach or there are lots of sport.. I prefer to think the latter...
I have found some fun stuff.. eye glasses, fishing lures, lead weights etc.
Shoulda seen the look on one of the fishermans faces when I walked up to him and ask him if he could use these (as I held out my hand with 9 lead weights).. "Hey, Its my way of Recycling" I said. He took them and we chatted a bit...
As I learn more about this beach hunting I will post...
till then,
Carry On
