Safari and Quattro Differences

Are the two machines the same except for the color or is the software updated on the Safari?

VaDigger, I am the proud owner a Quattro and I can tell you it's a great detector. I know its heracy to say this but I preferred it over the Etrac so I sold the Etrac and kept the Quattro. I cant factually answer your question regarding the Safari but I THINK they are the same.

I am a Safari owner. This is the first Minelab detector that I have owned. I really like the Safari. I believe it's truly one of the best metal detectors that I have ever owned. I am primarily a relic hunter, but the Safari has also done well on the beach. In my opinion, it does it all, or at least what I need it too. I don't really know that much about the Quattro, but my understanding is that the Quattro and Safari are similar machines. Best of luck to you in your decision.

One thing for sure about the Quattro, it has one of the slowest sweep recovery speeds I have ever seen on a detector. Years ago I was at a competitive beach hunt/coin shoot and a young fellow was there trying to use a Quattro and after the first day of the hunt, he had zilch. I felt sorry for him and loan him a Fisher C$ while I used a Minelab Xterra405 if memory serves me right. At the end of the second day, the boy did better than I did, especially in the nickel hunt. I sold my Quattro for this very reason. Deep machine, but slooooow.

I got one of the first Quarto and had a lot of problems with it as it may have been a bad detector so after talking to Minelab it was sent back the new also run the same way, so feel maybe there was a software glitch. what was happening if you got a slight signal whether false it seem to keep that tone and get better when you go back and forth over the signal. Many signal sounded good going back and forth, but I lifted the coil and let the threshold come back that signal now nulled of iron. I had to take any signal than lift the coil until the threshold came back and go over ir again to tell if it was good or bad. I dont thing that Minelab made the Quattro was made that long very long and then they made Safari which didnt have any of the problems that I know of.
