just got it put it together and turned it on ----------:yikes: went to chattering wild regardless where the disc.was set at ,especially on all metal:shrug:never had any problem with my first one??checked all connections cannot find anything wrong.it is constanly chattering tried all disc. settings nothing seems to work.i have nice sandy soil,my first 5.75" compadre worked great---what a let down:sad:
anyone know what else i can try?thanks guys------------------james.

I am willing to bet that the sensitivity is set a bit too high. There is an internal trimmer that can be adjusted but you have to know which one it is. The only other thing that I can think of is some kind of interference.

what do you mean you just got it together? is it cosomized ? sounds like to much gain

Yep, try it at a different location.

If your circuit card is rev 4 then the pot you want is at the top next to where the circuit card is marked rev 4. Fuzzy picture at the link shows the potentiometer you are looking for.

Sensitivity is reduced turning clockwise and increased turning counter clockwise.

Mine chatters in the house and does not quiet down until I get outside. It also chatters under the power lines. I set the sensitivity to just chatter a little when the coil is off the ground. It quiets down when the coil nears the ground and the detector starts reading the ground. I set the sensitivity outside the house, not inside. Use a small electronic adjusting tool or a small screw driver like a jewelers screw driver. use very little pressure and don't force the stops on the potentiometer. These parts, while not like egg shells, can be broken if not adjusted with care.

Mine has the 9 x 8 coil wired in.

Bummer man, sorry to hear that. If you don't want to go messing around in that control box and changing locations does not work then sounds like a call to Tesoro might be in order. They may have let one sneak out that was set a little too hot or something else going on. I'm almost as disappointed as this is the first post I have read about someone with the newer compadre in their hands and it's acting up already!

I really think the sensitivity is set to high regardless, will send it back ,just a pain in the back right out of the box and got problems already:shrug:thank you guys will see what happens.

You may also want to go ahead and send in a sample of your dirt while you are at it so they can adjust the ground balance; kind of fine tune it for your soil. Might mention that to them when you call but thats up to you and between you and them.

If any detector that I own starts acting strange the first thing I do is to replace the battery. The next thing that I do is to remove the coil cover and clean both the coil and cover. Then I remove and reinstall the coil cable at the box. Hope this helps.

Well a bigger coil on the compadre would be more reactive with EMI

As suggested use a new battery & go outside away from any iterferance/powerlines...........interferance= computers-wy-fi- buried power lines-overhead power lines-smart meters-TVs-DISHs-Floresent lights-Ect, Ect............

I've solved a few strange problems by replacing a near dead battery.

cannot explain it ,but the compadre is working good:shrug:never have i seen a detector do this ,still will never know what was wrong??just about gave up on it yesterday, did everything from a----z.put it up for the night got up this morning turned it on and everything started working like it should disc. was right on the botton.checked it out with coins and its excellent in depth.had called tesoro and they called me at home wow thats service:clapping:thank you guys for the feedback.

It might of just needed a day to get used to its new home, glad to hear it is working as it should. The Compadre is a very good detector and a lot of fun to use, Tesoro's products & customer service is top shelf.

EMI, EMI, EMI! Wireless internet, big problem. Incadescent and florescent lights. Power supply in any electronics. Satellite TV. Your cell phone just sitting near the detector. A radar detector on in the car in your driveway. The list goes on and on. Don't test in the house and get a good 100' away from the house if you have wireless internet routers.

Just got my first compadre with the 8" coil. Of course it has to be raining the day i get it... Well anyways i fired it up and like you stated its chattery. I guess i will have to take everyones advice as well and just wait until i test it out in the field far away from EMI. Right now its sitting here watching me..lol What a tiny tiny little thing. HH

Please let us know your thoughts on it when you get some use in and congrats on the new Compadre.

Ok thanks, i will be sure to keep you guys posted. But i can tell you that the cost and the reviews of this detector already pretty much sums up how i feel about it. Its my beep and dig it all buddy. The CTX is sitting out this season.HH

I have seen youtube vids of people showing a standard light bulb or a cell phone on and just sitting there causing detectors to go nuts. I think you will find the menus on the Compadre are a lot easier than that fancy CTX!

I agree for i had no problems turning it on and turning one knob..lol Although i am going to miss finding silver coins with ease. This season will be different i am on a mission to find some gold!!
