Rx Gain 15 without Boost vs Rx Gain 7 with Boost?

Skif

Situation: Came to a field, after balancing and Probe measuring the ground, Rx Gain was recommended - 15. Switching on Boost resulted in Gx Gain recommendation - 7. What settings is better or more or less the same?

Rx Gain 15 without Boost or Rx Gain 7 but with Boost?

Thanks and HH!

good one...especially considering TX Boost on drains the battery MUCH faster! Anyone got the answer?

When I tested the boost I got similar depth results with almost identical settings you describe and Carl@White's came back with a couple of examples when boost would be the better choice, but I can't remember what he said. This post was 3-4 months ago if someone would do a search. Maybe Carl will see this and respond again. It seems like it had to do with better EMI rejection sense less amplification was needed or something like that..........

They say there are three signs of old age. Loss of memory.....and..........................I forgot the other two.

Apparently this one:

After reading it my understanding is:

1. Boost is dedicated for mild grounds only.
2. In mild ground better to use Boost on because if we have Gain 15 - it is a deadline but with gain 7 we may crank up to 8-9 and it is recommended in the Manual sometimes to have the Gain a bit higher than the Probe suggests.

That is the one.....

I received a V5.3 shortly after that post and I could use the boost feature which the D2 did not allow in my ground to prove my suspicions. No depth gain for me in very mineralized ground. I have heard of great results on the beaches though.

If I understand correctly, the RX gain only amplifies what the detector is already hitting while the TX boos may actually increase what the detector is hitting. If that is true wouldn't the TX boost potentially acquire more targets because of actually increasing depth? RX gain does not increase depth, right?

Doesn't RX gain just increase the volume of deep targets?

I use TX boost in 2 situations:

1) Mild ground where I can generally run the RX gain up to 15, AND where there are very few targets. That is, a hunted out area where I really want to punch deeper.

2) Where RF noise is limiting the RX gain I can run. In this case, TX boost can be switched on and I should be able to maintain the same RX gain as when it is off.
