Did I understand correctly. You stated the VX3 does not have some of the filter settings as the V3i. You said you guys determined that 5 Band was actually the best filter overall and had been made the Default

Is my understanding correct ????...Should I even though it has 10 as default on the V3i switch to 5 for most hunting situations if I got it on what you said correct ???

Somewhere along the line, White's changed some of the factory programs from 10 to 5. Five filters will usually get a little more depth than 10 but you must slow down your swing speed. I find a filter setting of 5 two slow for some of my coin and jewelry hunting like looking for recent drops in large areas that are free of most trash items.

VX3 only has 5 and 12 filters, not the 7.5 and 10. Tom explained the rest.

5 is the new default but 10 still works fine for a faster sweep speed... Correct So far ???? So if you have it you may as well use it !!

7.5 seems to work best for me. You will just have to try the various filters Elton and see what works best for you in your ground and swing speed.

To be honest with my swing the 10 seemed better. I tend to swing a little fast, and have trouble keeping the swing slower..

There is no optimum filter. In the case of the VX3 they gave you 5 Hz and 12 Hz both the high and lower end of the filter choices. I hunt with 5 hz most of the time and as I remember Larry used 7.5 Hz. We chose what worked for us.

There is no best filter, gain, or program. It's what works for your conditions and style.

E,

Soil, soil, soil. and again what Larry said too.

Adjusting the filters will influence how the detector will cancel out the effects of ground. To see if one of the filters works better the target must be at its detection limits. That's when you can see a difference between the filters.

The ground filters are adjustable between 5 Hz and 12.5 Hz typically the lower filter should be selected for slower sweep speeds. There are also adjustments between band pass and high pass filters. For areas that have high electrical noise interference a band pass filter may be the optimal filter to use as it will reject both the ground effects and the higher frequency electrical noise. If there is very little electrical noise present the high pass filter may be desirable to get a little deeper due to less signal being discarded by the filter.
