Between the high temperatures and drought, I picked a good time to try detecting in rivers.
This is my forth trip so far and even though it is tiring, at least can keep on detecting and stay cool.
There was an old ferry crossing in this section of the river and of course many folks swim, tube, and fish there now.
There is not date left at all on the large cent, but in looking a certain details on the back it dates from 1796-1807.
When I first found it, I thought due the size it was a Modern dollar coin, but eventually could tell it was something much older.
This section has given up quite a few quarters too (3, and I am sure there are many more that I am missing because of deeper water and grass covering much of the bottom in many places.
As you can see, I also found 2 pounds of lead weights and am building up quite a collection of them....LOL!
