Reverse Hunting with Excal II?

a picture is better than 1000 words:thumbup:

What's this "S" pattern of swinging the coil rather than back and forth? Don't see the logic. Thanks for any help. Jim

As all old prospectors know, gold is where you find it. I am not trying to be funny. I have kept records of all my hunts with the Xcal II. My first two rings were white gold in dry sand, one a sweet 10 grams, then wet sand, than two in the water, and so on. 16 gold rings this past year, 8 in the water, 4 dry and 4 wet. I am in San Diego, hunt low tides, and hunt on average two days a week. I have had a great month so far too with three gold rings, two wet one dry. I like to hunt in the water, and that is probably why I have more finds there. My opinion only.

Drawing a continuous S from the bottom to top you will cover more ground and more efficiently than just side to side relying on your forward movement.
A bit hard to explain but here goes
At the end off the swing move the coil forward a coil width or so using your arm rather than forward body movement then swing it back to the other side and do the same.
I tried to draw it(i know it sucs) the first is the side to side, the second the S, look at the spaces at the end of the swing on the side to side(missed ground) and also the overlap(wasted time)
