Returned a wedding ring...

...to my uncle! I was detecting a local park when I got a solid 55 at 4 inches with the simplex. When I dug it out I saw a big fat ring in the hole! My uncle was visiting our house and when I showed him the ring he immediately took it and said is this tungsten? Yes, I replied confused. He said I lost this 2 years ago on my last visit to your house! I was in the park and when I got home it wasn’t on my finger! I was stunned and I happily offered it to him. He thanked me a million times and almost cried. It feels really good to make someone’s day especially your uncle! Thanks for looking!

That is amazing!!!
Great job on finding it and returning it also!!!
I had a similar experience a few years ago.
I was detecting a private yard and found a nice spoon ring.
Before searching and asked the owner if she or her family had ever lost anything in the yard and she said no as far as she knew.
Anyhow, shortly after finding the ring, she came out to walk her dog and I showed her the ring.... she looked at it and said “ oh my God, that is my ring”!
She said it should have an R for Ruth and has Gorham Sterling on the inside.
I had already seen this, so it knew it was indeed hers.
She said it has been missing for over 20 years and she thought it had been stolen.
A friend of hers made it for her.
That was a neat return!!

I found a class ring several years ago that had Stacy on the side dated 1997. SLK on the inside of ring. It was from Thorton Fractional South. I contacted the school and explained what I found and ask them to look up the owner so that I could return the ring to the owner. I gave them my phone number and ask if they found the owner to have her call me and i would return it. I waited two weeks and did not get any response. I call the school again with same story of the ring. They replied that the did not have the time to try . I told them they could look in the year book for 1997 and get it. They hung up on me. I still have it.

Congratulations on a great return.

About 50 years ago my eldest son was a little guy. Heard that usual refrain "Daddy i need to pee" So i pulled over so he could take care of business. He said Daddy i found a ring. It was a high school class ring from the high school i had attended my first two years of HS. I called the school and could not get any information from the Lady in the Office. I ran an ad in the local paper and a guy claimed it was his But he could not tell me the initials that were on the ring. The ring is still in my house. Somewhere. My wife put it away for safe keeping.

I also found a class ring back around 1970 when I was a kid while playing in a school yard.
Other than know t it was a ring, I had no idea about it being gold or a class ring... I guess my parents put it away and I lost track of it until they passed and I was going through the house about 8 years ago straightening things up and found the ring.
It was a 1959 class ring and I contacted the school tryIng to find the owner.
The lady in the other end sad she would look into it and discovered that the possible owner had the same last name as me.
She thought maybe we were kin, but I told her probably not since we were many states apart and I had a friend do a family tree for me shortly before getting in touch with the school.
I never heard anything back from them about the ring.... I still have it.
I guess that is where I got bit by the treasure hunting bug, but did not realize it til 2006 when I got my first metal detector!!😂

Its amazing to me that a lot of high school age kids will spend a good chunk of change for a class ring but not for the extra couple of bucks for their initials. Same with the more expensive silver rings. A couple of initials can solve a quick mystery.

Hey, Coinboy I have a question for you. Did you dig that 55 thinking it might be jewlery? Or was the signal just solid enough that you "had a hunch?"

I run it in zero disc park 1 mode and dig any solid signals because jewelry gives off all different kinds of readings on the VDI
