Religious Medallion found. info?

Beatfeet

New member
Hi all! I found this medallion at my Mom's house today along with 46 cents in clad.
3 wheats and a 1939 Jefferson being the best of them.
This medallion was about 7 inches down and showed as a dime with good tone in both directions on my ACE 250.
Mom says the house was built in the late 40's so could be from back then.
Any help with what it is would be great! I've searched the net some but not finding anything specific.
Did learn that the Alpha and Omega mean from beginning to end.
Thanks,
JJ

Looks Catholic but I might be wrong. A very cool find though.
Hope you stop by again.

God bless.

Mike

Welcome to the forum. nice find , but I have no idea what it is.

Interesting find. I can help a little bit I think but not much.

It is a Papal medallion of some sort. IHS means Iesous Hominum Salvator or I guess I should say it stands for that. English translation would be Jesus, Savior of man.

The symbols left and right are Greek letters. Alpha and Omega, a reference to Christ.

The bottom symbol are 2 Greek letters combined Chi Rho or the first 2 letters of Christ in Greek C and R

Opposing side has a photo of what i suppose to be Mary, the word Crusade, A Fleur-de-lis at the bottom

I can only assume that the star above Mary refers to her as the Stella Maris or Star of the Sea. Often times known as Our Lady Star of the Sea.

The papal church uses all kinds of symbols and idols in their worship of Mary etc.. This may be just one of the many.

Beyond all that, I have no idea why the medallion exists or what its called. But thats cool that you found it. Keep up the good work. God Bless!

Wow! It's always neat finding such things. I too think it's a Catholic medallion and agree with Sunbeard on it's description. I have found several Catholic medallions but not any of them look like the one you've found. Nice Find!

Thanks for the replies everyone!
Sunbeard, great info. I called my 83 yr. young mom and told her about it and it made her happy!
It has given me inspiration also!
I don't know what this is worth money wise. I think it is made of Aluminium. It is real lite. Looks like it may have been painted also.
I guess if it has made my mom happy and given me inspiration then it is worth a lot!
Thanks again!

Yes, that the Religious Medallion has inspired you and your mother is worth more than its value! To be inspired and encouraged is the best along with prayers! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

when researching these items is go to the Catholic church where a priest has a big book of all medals/medallions/pendants made for them. I always find my item. Maybe go ask at your local church.
Neat find, quite unusual, Steve in so az
