Regarding the in-line probe. You like it?

I'm torn between the small coil for my F-75 and the Sunray Probe. I live in an area that requires a DD coil (hint hint Fisher) so I'm leaning toward the probe. Is everybody liking their probe? I have a vibra probe that causes problem with the F-75 and wouldn't hunt without a probe anymore. Should I get the in-line probe or some other brand? If another brand, what brands of probes are you finding work with the F-75?

Thanks for your time.

In short...NO!!

I had a SunRay probe for my Explorer II and loved it. It was one of those accessories that was a necessity.

So when I got the F-75 and saw they had a probe for it, I knew I had to have one.

Well it didn't take long to figure out it ain't as good as the ones for the Explorer. I couldn't hardly get any depth out of mine unless I was almost touching the object. The one for the Explorer would at least go 2" or better on a coin. The one I had for the 75 was probably more like less than an inch.

I took it off and traded for the small coil and lower rod. Good swap if you ask me. I don't use the small coil as much as I thought I would and it's not that deep of a coil as some let on like it was in the beginning, but it has its place.

Some areas it's deep, others it's about average. It almost seems like the power of the F75 and interference plays a roll on how it reacts for depth.

I have gotten good depth, and not so good depth depending on where I was and how much electrical things were around my detecting area..

I've never been one to carry a probe, and often felt that there was NO substitute for accurate pinpointing (in 35 years I probably didnt use a pinpointer twice)...... but still, a good probe does come in handy on occasion.
In my opinion, the sunray probe is worth its weight in gold just for the convienence alone, and mine gets great depth here and worked good in that hot Va soil too, especially in the bottom of nail filled huts where you often need extreme separation. Also, I think the "depth" issue is a moot one..and I dont WANT a lot of distance from the probe to the coil, and it kinda negates the pinpointing properties if it picks it up TOO far away........... I like mine and would buy another in a heartbeat.................... Streak!

I HAVE ONE ON A EXPLORER II.,CZ3D AND ON THE F75 AND THEY WORK VERY WELL AND GET 2-3 1/2" IN DEPTH .
IT DEPENDS A LOT ON MACHINE SET-UP AND QUALITY OF HEAD PHONES.THEY ARE A GREAT TIME SAVER AND CUT WAY DOWN ON DAMAGE OF ITEMS WHEN DIGGING.
I WOULD RATE THEM AS A NEAR NECESSITY FOR A SERIOUS HUNTER.I HUNTED FOR OVER 25 YEARS WITHOUT ONE AND THE LAST 3 YEARS WITH THEM AND I DON'T PLAN ON DOING WITHOUT ONE FROM NOW ON.
I HAVE PINPOINTED A LOT OF SHALLOW 1-3" TARGETS AND JUST POPPED THE COINS OUT WITH A SCREWDRIVER AND LEFT THE KNIFE IN THE SHEATH.
AND WITH THE LARGER COILS, UNLESS YOU DIG A CRAITER ON THE 8" TO 12" AND MORE TARGETS YOU CAN'T GET THE COIL IN THE HOLE AND MANY TIMES WITH THE COINS ON EDGE YOU WILL BE OFF CENTER AND DIG PAST THE TARGET.NOT SO WITH ANY GOOD PINPOINTER
ALSO MANY TIMES MULTIPLE TARGETS IN CLOSE PROXEMITY TO EACH OTHER CAN THROW YOU A CURVE BUT THE PINPOINTER HELPS A LOT TO MAKE A GOOD CLEAN RECOVERY.
JUST MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE,RAY.

I have both the probe and the small coil and I'd take the probe hands down. I liked the DX-1 probe on my DFX better than the FX-1 probe for the F75 - but it still works great. I don't think I'd want to hunt without the probe. I haven't been too impressed with the small coil however...then again I really haven't given it a fair shot.

Well said.......

I had a Sunray probe on my Explorer and I now have one on my F75 and it works great...No problems and I get 2 to 3 inches in depth. I also have the small coil and I just don't use it that much and we mostly hunt long gone house sites.

I have the small coil and the sunray probe. I use both of them alot. The small coil gets me through the trash and I can recover the items alot quicker with the probe and move on.

Its nice having your probe set to the same settings as your machine, plus you have audio ID with the probe that you do not have with others. If you have targets mixed in with nails and other iron, this probe will allow you to find the good targer easier. But on long, all day hunts, I find the extra weight does have an affect. That said, I dont think its as deep as the Pocket Probe, which is the Cadilac in my book.

How much are the Fisher in line probes??? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I have the small coil and the uniprobe. And you can't beat that for depth and speed in the hole.

I see guys on youtube videos grabbing dirt and swinging past their coils no probe. And the time you have to spend doing that must be a zen thing. I like to hunt as many targets as I can. It seems a lot of hunters on the east coast don't use probes. I am a calif boy and the probe is the only way to go. Even no the f75 gets almost on top of the target it still gets lost in the dirt. The probe lets you know where the target or targets are before you get too close so not to damage them. Anyway I tired the probe for the f75 the inline probe and found it slow and had very little depth compaired to the uniprobe.

As I grab handfuls of dirt on all my videos. A zen thing? You really think it takes me longer to grab handfuls of dirt? It's probably quicker & one less thing I gutta take into the woods now that I have camera, tri-pods, extra batteries, etc. I have all kinds of probes in my basement so I have done it both ways, and I know how to pinpoint & never damage anything.
I'd be willing to bet it takes folks longer to get whatever probe their using out of it's holder, turn it on, and then have to poke around in the dirt to almost touch it. Often I already have my target in my 1st handfull.....
I still use probes occationally, but more for hunting in yards.....

Of the detectorist out there..Knee pads, Boots, flak jackets, probes, Water bottles suspended from jackets, Diggers, knives, shovels, and one guy had a camel hat I swear..
Looked like Ahab the Arab......Laughed my self to death..But what the hey, different strokes for different folks, and then you have the Military enthusiast Full infantry gear................and they wonder why people tell them no when they ask for permission. And these guys were hunting a local park..not even on a relic hunt where you might need some of the stuff hanging off them.:detecting: HAHAHAHAHAH Look in the mirror..is that you:rofl:

I'm with you, Bill. I don't have a problem pinpointing, either and once the target is out of the hole I can usually locate it in a manner of seconds...and it has been a long time since I've damaged a target, as well. HH jim tn

I just put a probe on my F75 and the jury is still out on this one. I used it last night on a deep target and it doesn't seem to get more than 2" out from the head of the probe, which was only annoying because of how deep I was having to dig (18" into what turned out to be a burn pit).

you already have a pinpointer!..the detector!..ya just need to learn how to properly pinpoint a target with it!..that's all!..spend the extra money on a small coil set up!
you would be better served!
