Recovery Speed Question

Will Penny

New member
I am not worried about depth. Put depth on the back burner for now. My question: What make or model would have the fastest recovery speed between targets. I am in the process of working a piece of land that is heavy with iron along the Hudson River in upstate New York.

XP Deus. To expensive though especially if you require non stock coils. In the U.S. I would go for one or other version of the T2 ( F75 is around the same speed but doesn't have the width of discrimination down in the iron range that the T2 does ).

You could go non motion and then not have as much worry about recovery as you do with motion designs.

One of the simplest units to set up and use that has a fast recovery speed and great in iron are the Gold Bug Pro and G2.

The T2 and F75 also fit the bill, but are hundreds more in price.

The fastest recovery speed detector that I am aware of is the White's V3i which is adjustable from 0 to 200. A setting of 45 seems to match that of the T2 and F75 and a setting of 100 comes close to the Explorers and E-Trac.

There are several machines that have lightening fast recovery, as any # of persons will point out (F75, etc...) However, don't overlook at that "recovery speed" isn't the only aid in work in and around iron. You also have to factor in which machines do a good job at "averaging" (or "seeing through"), as well.

Some machines that might have super fast recovery, for if objects are very close to each other, may not necessarily do well if the nail is totally covering the coin. If two objects are utterly co-mingled, then "recovery time" becomes a non-issue. In that case, you have to ask yourself what machines average targets the best. Some machines simply see the object on top, the best, and fail to let the one below it bleed through, or work to bring up the average, or whatever you want to call it.

Fisher Gold Bug SE / Pro, Tek. G-2, Tek T-2. These 3 are as fast as they get. Theres nothing out there faster. (70

I think the fastest recovering machine at the moment is the Xp Deus, but it is definitely a expensive machine.

Toms right there is more to consider than just recovery. Sweep speed and filtering come into play as well. Some machines will filter out weak signals if you swing to fast. Plus you will skip over targets during coil shut down if you sweep to fast. Tom also has a point about averaging and TID.... doesnt do much good to recover quickly if the TID is way off. Id choose a machine that i could work in AM and the mix of tones wouldnt drive me crazy. Also one that i can get a small coil with great seperation.

Hey Will, I'm no Pro,and haven't used them all, but I have been digging for a long time. From what I hear and have read over the years, in comparision to all the suggestions I just read here, you best read up on Tesoro. Any of them I believe would be worth a look so as to choose which would suit you needs, but overall, I believe you may be surprized at what you may learn about their recovery. and disc.speed. I believe that will hold true from even the so called "starter" machine Compadre,(it is amazing) through the whole line, but the Tejon with a 5.75 con. would be my pick for your chore.Much bigger choice with Tesoro without breaking your bank. HH, Charlie

I'm with Charlie. I can't say I've tried every machine out there, but have and use several Tesoros and gotten rid of several competitor's machines due to notable lagging response times compared to the Tesoros.

Another with quick target response is the Tek Omega 8000. It is fast, has great target separation, excellent id at good depth and with the two DD coils, 11" and 5," has laser like separation...and is moderately priced. HH jim tn

If recovery speed is the key consideration then the only recommendation I could make would be a T2 or a F75.

Fastest I have seen and used GOLD BUG PRO!!! hands down

Take a look at the new Garrett AT Pro look at the videos on here and You-Tube just as fast as the T2 and F75 and has the 40 points of Iron rejection and just as deep for half the price but completely waterproof up to 10 feet deep.

I didn't find the AT Pro that good on heavy iron and not as deep as the T2. Poor on the wet sand though some are pushing it as a match for pulse/BBS/FBS. They don't seem to be able to quote depths on standard items such as a Victorian penny or 5 cent coin so I would say its one to try before you buy but that applies to almost anything.

I agree with Mr. Bill, The Fisher Gold Bug SE / Pro, Teknetics G-2 or Teknetics T-2 are the fastest recovery machines on the planet in iron ridden sites.

I also have a Garrett AT Pro, Although it's a decent machine for an all-terrian detector it's not as fast recovery detector as a T-2 in areas laced with iron.

I'll throw in my two zincs:

The discontinued White's Classic series, Classic ID, Classic IDX, IDX Pro, and non- metered Classic lll SL with the Blue Max 350 'Snooper' 4 inch coil do pretty well in the nails. The places I hunt are around old farmsteads over 100 yrs. old and have plenty of nails in the ground mixed in with some goodies like indian head pennies, old silver, watch fobs, tokens etc. JMHO.
