Received My New Id-Edge Today...

I was just wondering if the factory programs get the same depth on targets that overlap between programs. For example does a silver dime get better depth in the old coin program vs new coin? Winter is a great and terrible time to have a new detector. Great due to all of the anticipation that builds. Terrible due to all of the anticipation that builds. Thanks for sharing with us OT.

I use the ferrite core as if it is the ground. I hold it near the bottom center of the coil, as if the coil was on the ground. Then I press, and hold, the Auto keypad for a couple of seconds. This is the keypad used for automatic ground balance. I then move the ferrite core approximately 6 inches away from the coil center as if I had lifted the coil straight off the ground. I hold it for a couple of seconds, and then release the keypad. The detector gives a single tone alerting me to the fact that it has performed a successful ground balance.

I'm not certain that this had any affect on the machines performance, I just felt better doing it consistently, especially when I got the successful ground balance signal from it.

Looks like you lucked into a warming spell in PA. Some guys get all the breaks (lol). Gotta be quite the climactic shock to run north for a bit of hunting.
Glad to have our southern friends jumping up into our beloved PA to share in the wealth.

Where did you get this iron ferrite core? Is it powdered iron molded into a cylinder? How big is it? Does it really simulate the ground? Does this still work even if salt is the problem? Thanks John

is not what the Old Coin mode is about. The factory presets are simply quick "go to" settings that enable the proper disc range for different hunting scenerios. If it is like the Excel there is no way to tell a recent copper memorial cent from a clad or silver dime. Depending on depth, angle and soil conditions they can read up or down a number or two and are centered in the 27-29 range. Some dimes will read a little higher at 30 and older wheats read down as low as 25-26.

The ferrite core sample came with the early GEB detectors from Whites. I still have a couple from those early machines. I believe they were used to simulate the ground when doing bench testing. I'm not sure about the salt. I would think that would be a different situation. Here is a quick shot showing it compared to a US Quarter.

Eddie,

Not on fine gold jewelry, but the info I got is that it is very sensitive to small (BB size) lead at very good depths.... even in bad ground.
