Although I haven't been personally harrassed, I have had the stink eye glared at me on occasion. Usually it's the cars that slow down and pull up along side the curb that get my attention. Then they roll down the window and ask if I have found anything good? or How's the dirt fishing going?

Not completely sure how I would handle a nosey busy body that although I am clearly ignoring, decides to get into my personal space to grill me.
Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Unless the person is a total jerk, explain to them (preferably in monosyllabic words and short senteces) that you are out hunting coins as a hobby. Let them know (educate them) that we also are ready, willing and able to help recover lost rings or other items of value for others. Nearly everyone knows someone who lost a ring or other piece of jewelry sometime, somewhere. BootyHunter is right...we have to keep the hobby viewed in a positive light by the uninformed masses.
