A couple of times now I had high tones that made me stop,
That's it! It made you stop!
There is just something about a good hit. It doesn't need to be perfect, it only needs to have a sound that stops us.
yep. Sometimes there is just something about a slight high tone that makes me dig. Sometimes it pays off.

I agree. It don't have to jump out and grab you by the ears. Using my three rules of consistency have always worked well for me. HH Randy

Digger, can you elaborate on your three rules of consistency. I think that is one of the things I am struggling with. Any tips from the seasoned pros on what you would consider a consistent target looks/sounds like would be greatly appreciated. I also am in highly mineralized soil. Would that possibly degrade the consistency of a particular target.

If I am coin hunting in a yard I usually don't dig that deep. But when I am civil war hunting in fields I will dig as far down as I have to. Found some good targets that only gave faint one way signals and when I cut plug I lose target. But I keep digging and eventually find it.

Ya got that right!! Relic hunting with the 70/705 is that way. You described it perfect. I ALWAYS dig those faint high tone signals that either bounce from -8 to the 40's or a hard hit 46 and the one way signals. I have seen a .69 cal bullet dug at a measured 15 inches buy one of my buddies with the 705. X-Terras are relic killers!!!
