Re: Which Detector is the best, V3i or E-Trac

I think maybe it all depends on what your are looking for. I think you were interested more in gold ......so my choice would be the v3i. Its very stable in salt conditions and I think is a little bit hotter on gold than the etrac. 3 Freqs helps. Or you can adjust it to fit "your" needs. It works great right out the box and you should stick to factory settings for 1 month or two.

The BH 300 is fine and a lot less money....easy to use and waterproof to 25 ft....and 2 freqs to help you in salt. There are a couple of things that could be improved upon but otherwise a nice machine for the money....and well built too!

If you are going to detect wet and dry beaches then you do not need dis. as I think that you should dig every signal....I us a Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II as I like to get in the water and also the dry sand....I do dig everything
and with the SH there is no learning curve...turn it on set the threshold and go, but be ready to dig some deep targets....I have found several rings froms gold to stainless and enjoy finding any ring....Now the story
you most likely will not believe...I dug a piece of what I call piano wire 8 inches long at about 2 feet on dry sand, so the PI machine can find it all. I also have an Etrac and don't know of another machine that I would
trade it for, but I don't use it very often on the beach as the Garrett Sea Hunter is the go to detector for the beach and the Etrac is for all the other times I go detecting elsewhere. Like everyone else said, whatever
detector you get, give it a chance, it is almost impossible to find something great everytime you go....I was at the beach last Saturday and found only a few coins and nothing else......except some pull tabs and 2 million
bobby pins.....just never know what may come up in the scoop......good luck and stay with it, as this is a great hobby and if you look at it that way, you will eventually find lots of great things.

Sometimes chicken, Sometimes feathers, '.... If you buy and sell detectors because you expect everyday to be a chicken feast, you're probably in the wrong hobby. Most of my days i desire chicken but only get feathers. You say your beaches are full of gold, silver, relics, and more, and the reason you're not finding it is because of the detectors?? Perhaps there isn't as much gold, silver, relics and more there 'as much as you think? Just my humble opinion.

I have both the V3i and the Etrac, and both are monsters. I like both of them for some of the same reasons and some different ones..

Sames?:
Both have great stock programs to find treasure
Both can have custom programs
Both are about the same weight
Both have rechargable battery packs
Both will hit on gold and silver, as I have found both with them, and easily
Both have the same recovery speed and accuracy (with customized programs)
Both have backlighting for night hunting

Differences?:
V3i has the color HD screen
Etrac has a great 4 digit (XX-XX) VDI display for info
V3i has wireless headphones
Etrac has E-Echange to swap programs on your computer with people
V3i has every customizable option you can imagine, even changing colors, filters, names, & fonts
Etrac is easier to identify a coin over junk
V3i will go deeper with the right program (running magic's program and the Etrac can't hit that deep)
Etrac pinpoints better and tighter (just my opinion after 1000's of pinpoints on each machine)
V3i has windows type menus to change adjustments easily
Etrac has softer tones which are nice for long hunt days (just my opinion)
V3i can set a tone for each VDI number

just some info.... you can't go wrong with either machine
