Re Annoying Metal Detecting videos

The best IMO, are the ones that show a live dig, consisting of the machine showing the signals and sound along with the coil swinging over the ground. Then the live dig down to the target. Those videos are much more interesting then only showing from target to target with no live digging or visual detector in action. JMO.

AMEN

It takes very little time and effort to post a live unedited dig video for example..
1. Film find
2. Take memory card out of device and put into your computer or heck if you film from a smart phone just go to step 3
3. Go to Youtube, enter a bit of details like what, when, why
4. Click upload - Note this may take some time but you don't have to sit there and watch the progress bar. Just wait for the email from Youtube that the upload is complete
5. Done
What did that take ten minutes at the most post recovery?

These are what my videos mostly are like and they are fine for me and that's all I care about. I talk while I am recovering the find, maybe about what else I have found in the area, a new accessory, or the weather and that's it.. What takes time is making it look more polished (think Dirt Fishin America videos) if you think and care about if that will increase your subscribers base and how many views you get.

Learn to pinpoint! Most videos waste time passing the coil numerous times over the target and you have no idea how many nasty looks I get from people listening to this noise while I watch!

DD coils take more time to PP than a concentric but they perform better for deeper targets. Combine that with a multi tone machine that is giving you massive amounts of info, the extra time it takes to sniff out a potential deepie (old) coin usually pays off in the end. All that noise on the vids can really help someone learning the sounds, etc. from some of the higher tech machines. Tell the onlookers to leave the room.......jmo

I absolutely agree that a GOOD detecting video will have the sweep with sound,VDIs and a live dig to the target. I haven't read all the replies so sorry if I'm doubling the thoughts at all but guys and girls, the people watching these videos don't care as much about what you drive than how you're going to show them how to detect better. We want experience, instruction and real world results. I don't give a flyin' fig about your car,the scenery or any of that. As soon as you get a signal that you want to film and have thought of the intro that you're going to say for that target, turn on the camera and take us through it. I don't care about pranks, the old ladies dog,the majestic brickwork on the church, etc. I want to learn everything I can about how I can detect better, and you yapping about stupid crap isn't helping. There are some really good ones but a lot more terrible ones, hopefully that ratio will change.

Interesting discussion and its very easy to critiscise someone elses hard work and effort, does the originator of the thread produce any videos himself?

If so can he post a link of these so we can have a look and review these?

I suspect not, as if he had any idea of the time and effort it takes to make a video, shooting it, editing it, outputting it, uploading it and managing a youtube channel he would probably wouldn't have made such a one sided post.

Ok the original post was one sided I am an old man I am allowed to have a rant once in a while
I enjoy watching all videos my main gripe was metal detecting be in the titles so people can search
for the videos

Well, you're not forced to watch these videos, if you don't like them move on. YouTube is a wealth of information and knowledge. Granted there's a lot of things I click on that I don't care for but I just move on if that's the case. Everyone's different. Mike

I greatly appreciate people who post metal detecting videos. I get a lot of enjoyment out of watching them. It takes a lot of work to get a video from the field to youtube, and I've got a lot of respect for anyone who does it. If you click on one and don't like it, EXIT. Or if you think it's all about ego and self promotion, and you're offended by that, don't look at them at all. Most of the people who post them are not directors in the class of Ron Howard, but it's surprising how good most of them are.
