Re Annoying Metal Detecting videos

New member
If you make metal detecting videos put "metal detecting" in the title it would be easier to find the videos
Loud music intros and music during whole video is annoying
There are some videos that have metal detecting in title and they
don't even show metal detecting and driving who wants
to watch someone drive and talk for 20 minutes

ditto!

Some get excited about the area they are going to detect..... Usually they follow up with a finds video if it was productive. So we have the full story relating to the site and the finds.
They put forth a lot of effort in all their videos. Usually I just click off if it isn't something I want to watch.. And if I watch I usually learn something new.
So based on that I like all related detecting videos. And very much appreciate the effort put into those who make them ... Good job all ....:clapping:

I think there's a lot of effort wasted in detecting videos by people who are more interested in ego gratification than detecting info.
KISS --Keep it short & sweet
As soon as I see an attempt at fancy filmsmanship and dubbing , it's toast , and the effort was wasted.

As someone who has quite a few detecting videos on YouTube let me say it takes a lot of time and effort to record and then upload to YouTube. I I don't put music to mine or record my traveling to a site, but I have enjoyed some that do.

What chucks my wagon is the people who leave nasty comments because your video didn't show their detector in a favorable light. I post my stuff as is. No attempts to hide what happens in the live. I've had people all pissy and leave comments that I was trying to misrepresent in some videos. The funniest was several who made the comment I had my Compadre mis-adjusted. A 1 knob detector and I had it mis-adjusted. Give me a break!

What I like best are the videos that compare several machine IN THE LIVE on a target still in the ground. The tube in the ground thing just doesn't convince me at all. You're still introducing a new coin in the ground. Nothing like one that has been in the ground for 50 years. I like to go out and find what I believe will be a deep coin, and then compare the various detectors on that target before I recover it.

I applaud the effort of all that take the time to attempt a detecting vid...sure, some are 'better' than others, all can be learned from either from a cinematic standpoint or a detecting one...Its fun in the winter's deep snow to get on youtube and before you know it, you go from one to the next and burn up a half day watching other guys hunt! Those Caribbean vids really warm a guy up in the Winter..:clapping:.

I have made some for educational purposes. But I agree that a whole lot of them are being produced solely for stroking someone's ego. Or to try and break into the TV business, which really makes me want to puke . .

I've learned a LOT from some of the vids and I'm also snowed in so it also helps pass the time until spring. Keep em coming guys...!!!!! I appreciate the effort. Some of my favorites are from Cutaplug, Dirt Fisher and a few others.

I personally cannot stand 15 minute mding videos. You don't need to show use every wheat penny or memorial u dig unless it somehow improves the video. I have switched from producing mding hunt videos to review videos. They are generally received better because they actually help people.

To me, that the funnest way to hunt, but I've found most of my fellow detectorist friends have little patience for that thang. My response from lots of Tectors is, "Yes, I would dig that" and then they scoot to swing their own signals. I already KNEW I was digging that signal. martin

I enjoy most of the videos but must admit it's irritating to endure the long intervals between digging the actual targets. I know it's reality that it takes sometimes long periods between finds but it's not necessary to endure it on a vid. If I made m.d-ing vid's, I would edit the non productive time slots.
Also, I always cringe when the detectorist rubs and rubs and rubs and rubs some more!!! the gritty dirt off the coin just to find it's a mediocre coin and after 5 minutes, the hunt is resumed! That coin could have been a rare coin.....arggggggg!!!!
But overall, if I lived in a cold climate with snow and frost on the ground, these metal detecting videos would certainly keep me sane during the winter months!!

The best IMO, are the ones that show a live dig, consisting of the machine showing the signals and sound along with the coil swinging over the ground. Then the live dig down to the target. Those videos are much more interesting then only showing from target to target with no live digging or visual detector in action. JMO.

No, no, no, no that just was not right!! I think I wasted 4 minutes and 35 seconds of my life LOL!! Now that super annoying twangy sound is ingrained in my memory forever! Thanks for posting dan93. The moral of the story (video) is not to post a video on utube on your first time out like he did. The first find ever will always be exciting to you as an individual but I doubt anyone else unless it's something valuable or unique. Again, we all have a choice of viewing particular videos or not viewing them. P.s. He did a pretty decent job filling the hole if that was his first time out!!

That was probably the first time out with the camera!
I don't know I never got much past the wimpy tunes and the 20 second mark--why waste your time with such nonsense?

I agree we all have a choice of viewing particular videos or not viewing them

I like watching all the videos just dont like the loud rock music ACDC intros I usually fast forward to first 2 minutes of videos

Too many arm chair directors that are too lazy to get out in the field and film their own...and too scared to put it up for everybody else to critique. I don't even know why some join YouTube if all they are gonna do is critique/comment/bash other people's videos and never post any of their own. It's easy to make the plays from the chair, but until they pony up and put their own up, they need to keep their mouth shut. The world doesn't revolve around certain people...and everybody else doesn't have to cater to their likes and wants. If people don't like it...they can go pound sand lol

I gave it a good go with the videos but in the end...it was better to leave the stinkin' camera in the truck or at home and actually enjoy hunting instead of trying to get good video, then cutting it all down, editing, then posting it up...only to have trolls come along and shoot it down. That's why I disabled comments and reviews on mine.
