R2 Relic Settings Advice

Old Virginia

New member
I'm still learning the Racer 2 and, so far, have only used it on sites with heavy iron infestation with the NEL Snake coil. I've been quite pleased with its performance in the iron. But I hope to get out Thursday to one of my Civil War sites. Open fields, VERY little iron and VERY little modern trash. So I'm thinking I should run the R2 as hot as possible (Deep mode) with the stock coil. Any advice on settings in this environment?

Thanks!

I've been hunting a site with conditions like that and was using Deep Mode with max sensitivity and the stock coil. My only problem was patience. Since there are so few signals, I tend to want to move faster, and Deep Mode needs you to run more slowly than 2 Tones or 3 Tones. I ended up going back to 2 Tones as I didn't feel the depth tradeoff was that significant. Of course, your mileage may vary, and I may be wrong (per usual)...

Let us know how it goes.

I agree with Kapok. I'd use D2, stock 11" coil, Gain as high as possible with disc 2, Iron Vol. 01, iSat 01, no notch, tone break 10 with tones st at 10kHz & 70 kHz. if you get into an area that is producing, switch to Deep mode and slow way down.
