Hi BARKER,

No you did not get hooked. The jewellery guy have a store right there at the corner of the street. He have a mortgage or rent to pay...utility bill...insurance...licence...pay roll ... compensation...business taxes... He will charge you couple dollars for a watch pine, free estimate on reparation...will spend an hour with a customer for a small sale...

No you did not get ''hooked'' You make a deal with him. You did get $157 fast for something you found.. He will probably make couple box out of that ring.He must make money with that ring, otherwise he would not be there to buy your rings.

i am sure if you put that ring for auction sale in the forum, you would not get more than $50. Yes you could get better money but no you did not get Hooked

Serge

Jerry,
I don't see a minimum on their website. Email nicki@aragold.com , she's very helpful.

Thanks, Dave. I'll either email them or give them a call and post what they say in case anybody else is wondering. Thanks again. --Jerry

Its in your best interest to find a person (dealer) who you can trust. I have sold some rings at a huge loss in the past. then I bought a scale, weighted, and figured the going price. Then I took the recently found ones to (5) varying places that buy gold. I was offered anywhere from 22% to 95% of their value. It so happened that a coin shop that buys and sells gold was the best and I am well satisfied with their honesty. This may help you. It so happened that I was in the shop aboout to sell some gold when another couple was ahead of me. They told the owner the had had their gold evaluated buy a well known gold buying company and wanted his price before they sold. The Company said their gold was worth $342.00. After determining the caret of each item and telling them tha two of the items were not gold then weighting them he told them the items were worth $592. Be sure you find somebody you can trust

Barker: I am a jeweler and you did get taken. Many people in my profession assume the person coming through the door knows nothing and in most cases are correct. This is no reason to screw anyone, however. He fully intended to clean the ring and resell it (whole) for a lot more than 157 dollars. This is why he did not want you taking stones out.

What you should have done (and still can) is calm yourself, go back to this place and calmly explain to the man that you now understand how the game is played. Tell him you know he intended to resell your ring and make a much larger profit than mere gold content. Let him know you think it unethical and mean-spirited. Make certain (essential) you never get loud or mean or nasty. Play it like a hurt child. Put some sorrow in your voice for having learned this fact of life. And make this play when there are other customers around.

You probably will never do business there again but it will be worth it. You'll feel great after, the store owner will have an uncomfortable moment, and he'll have to make eye contact with the other customers at some time later should they want to deal with him.

Maybe this is childish, but I'd play it just like that. Then I'd find a different store.
