Question on the Xp ORX coils

oldkoot

Well-known member
Have never used any of the Xp detectors but just to try one out I am about to come into possession of a ORX, I want this for Nugget detection because of how light they are supposed to be, which is most likely all I will use it for because I figure it would be great to have as a pack along detector when I am out hunting for nuggets

My question is will the coils from the Deus 1 work on the ORX are the coils inter changeable between the Deus 1 and the ORX ???

the ORX I am about to receive is coming with the 9 inch HF coil and I am wanting to add the 9.5x5 HF coil, so what say ye all you Xp people LOL

Thanks for any and all replies

I have the Orx and the hf elliptical coil and the 9” X35 coil that work with it. Also I think it has to have a different backphone than the D1. It’s been a while since I played with it.

If you want to part with the 9.5x5 Elliptical let me know in a PM I would be interested in it if you want to sell it, the ORX came with a set of wireless phones and the wired back Phones I use wireless headphones with all my detectors

thanks for the reply

Oldkoot, that small high frequency elliptical coil is probably your best bet for nugget hunting.

I still have my D1 and the elliptical is my favorite coil on it so have no thoughts of letting it go, sorry. The Orx with its two gold programs should make a nice back unit for prospecting. I recently saw a video of the Manticore with the new 8x5.5 coil that was very impressive. But try and find one of those. Scarce as hen’s teeth.

Hey brother never hurts to ask if something is for sale no one can shoot me for trying or asking, that's the only way to know for sure if someone is willing to part with something or if something might be for sale is the way I look at it LOL

That’s quite alright by me no offense was taken in your asking. I forgot to mention the Manticore video was made in northern Nevada on a gold nugget hunt. They showed it picking out nugget flakes less than a gram. The tid was in the 3-4 range in shallow ground. Not saying they weren’t planted just that it was impressive. I don’t know if the Orx could do that,, but maybe. I have a vial of nuggets all less than 1gram. Just might charge up the stuff and see one of these days. If it does, I’m heading for Rye Patch and other Neveda spots.

I also use the Legend and a Garrett GM 24K both the Legend and the 24K has no problems hitting sub gram nuggets in fact I have dug two very small nuggets that one was .012 G and the other was .029 G the 24K is 48 KHz and the Legend in gold mode is 20 and 40 KHz in multi or you can run the legend in SF mode 20 or 40 KHz so I would think that the ORX with the 9.5x5 HF coil running at the higher frequencies should have no problem hitting those same two nuggets it dang sure should at 81 KHz that the 9.5x5 HF coil is capable of running

Good to know. Getting too old to prospect but can swing a stick just fine. I ‘m posting a picture of my trailer I bought and rebuilt from the axles up during Covid. Took me 10 1/2 months. It’s a 1965 Santa Fe. Now as new and ready for the trip soon as spring hits.

What state do you generally hang out in Listener ???

Seems like every time you ask about a "certain" detector someone will always add that Manticore to the subject
The Holly Manticore ..$1500 You can not buy Coils or Lower rods ... stuck with there wireless Headphones

I’m in Utah. Can’t fault people for Minelab’s shortcomings. I really like it but at my years I struggle with the concept and all the bells and whistles. As with detecting in general, it takes patience. I over came the headphone issue with my own wireless setup and earbuds. Sure it’s pricey. But the quality is there and I am learning it . My hunting buddy has an Etrac which took him 4 years to learn but he now has over 400 silvers and enviable jewelry finds. He found a Morgan dollar at 12 inches that 3 others before him missed on an 1890 home. It is frustrating yet I remember all the whining earlier over the Deus and over their updates. I remember when Calabash was a newbie to it and then all of a sudden he was a guru of sorts. Most of it hype cause his soil is so pristine. I don’t know yet why the Manticore users are so quiet on this forum. I am still in a fog on using it I wouldn’t want to send someone astray, but constantly. Searching for tips to help me set it up better. They share finds but by the setups too help. You’re lucky if they reveal the tid’s.

I will talk to anyone about any detector but will be honest with you i cannot see the price of the manticore when the Legend, is just as capable of a detector, the Manticore at the price it is at is almost 3 times the cost of the legend, sure maybe it can hit a target at1/2 to 1 inch deeper but at what cost not worth it to me that's for sure, I made a trade to get the ORX so that is the reason for my post I just need to find out about the different coils for the ORX

And you brought up a good point for me personally I like having coil options available for different scenarios of detecting, with the limited coil selection for the Manticore its a turn off for me personally.

Hey Oldkoot
I read through this thread and my have missed it, but the Deus 1 coils will all work with the ORX

I’m copying 3 pages from the Orx manual that only shows the HF coils and the X35 coils for the Orx. No mention of the earlier coils from the Deus1.
I was lucky my son bought the Manticore for me. I may not be a quick study as some but I have it and want to learn it well. Really like the D2. It’s my go to machine.

I don't think the old low frequency coils will work with the Orc. The latest XP update for the Deus allows it to use the Orx headphones but stops it from using the older coils. The X35s and the HF coils all work though. I don't know why, when someone asks a specific question, people answer by recommending a different detector. I'm sure the Orx will do fine and it is very light. I have the Deus and two x35 coils, 9 and 11 inch, and both HF coils and I love them all. Even the X35 coils can go up to 25khz.

Agree with you on the other detectors, being thrown in the mix LOL, thank you for the info on the coils, greatly appreciated

I have traded one of my Legends for the ORX, and I did that for one specific reason, I wanted a really light compact VLF for carrying along with me while swinging my Axiom in back country, and I feel the ORX was my best choice for the purpose I intend to use it for, not saying the Legend was bad or anything like that because the Legend is not bad, even though I had some issues with updating to 1.11 those issues are resolved now with the Legend and I am back to loving the Legend like I did before the 1.11 came out.

I just wanted something lighter that I could easily carry in a back pack or some other way while swinging the Axiom, and the ORX checked all the boxes for me, thus my thread about coils specifically the 9.5x5 inch HF coil, the ORX come with the 9 inch round HF which only runs up to 59 KHz so I wanted to add the 9,5x5 HF coil also because of the higher KHz its capable of
