Question on Pinpoint re-tune on Vaquero

All Tesoro detectors will crackle and snap and pop over trash for sure.If you run a vaquero supertuned it will really pop.I like that,it lets me know just how much trash is around.Could you be in a area as described what hot rocks can do? I tell you what bobby, mail it to me and i will check it out for you? :ranting:

Alright guys, forget I said Halo effect...I just meant I know that coins that have been in the ground longer have a better range on detection, so I understand that scenario...still doesnt explain what's goin on though

It was done in my back yard...the soil here in NY isn't bad or anything...I gotta use it in an actual detecting scenario first before I decide if its an issue or not...it may be a way for me to get some deeper signals, I don't know. I'm just hoping that its not hurting me, that's all

Alright, check this out.Your ground conditions are changing. You have to check your ground balance every so often on any detector or you will start to get erratic .

This wasnt happening while I was detecting. I went out in my back yard to do a quick test on a buried coin and this issue kind of just happened...I had my ground balance set and everything. I didn't move from the spot it was occurring in

Ok Spirit that being the case, in your opinion, I should dig just the repeatable signals? I try to ignore all the pops and clicks and concentrate only on the repeatable signals. Am I not trusting the V enough? I usually don't waste time on one way signals or targets that only beep 2-3 times. Thanks for your input

Did you scan the ground in all metal good before you buried the coin?

Yep, it was stable conditions...idk how else to explain it. All I know is the detector picked it up for like 1 or 2 sweeps, then the signal went away, then when I pressed the pinpoint button for just a second and let go, it came back a better signal than before and it was repeatable...so somehow I gained a little extra detection depth just by doing that, but that doesn't seem normal...

You may have actually found out something that all vaqs do?Somehow there may be some kind of retune type connection here.Keep us updated on this. This could be important. o_O

Haha yea, I will...I'm hopefully going out tomorrow so if I get put in a situation where I can try it I will

I went out today with the Vaq for about 4 hours to the spot where I found the Spanish reale with my Eagle Spectrum.,..I have not been able to find any other coins in this area and I found nothing worth showing today. Ive probably spent about 15 total hours at this spot with the Vaq compared to only like 4 with the Eagle Spectrum...This issue I was having where it seemed like the pinpoint button re-tuned itself or whatever didn't really do anything for me today as the only good signals I was getting were some square nails. I'm getting kind of frustrated. I've found 5 silver coins in the last 5 hunts with my Eagle and managed to find like 5 silver coins total in the last two years I've had the Vaq and these silvers i found with the Eagle were In spots that I've gone over with the Vaq multiple times. And they weren't even that deep.

I know what might be your problem bobby. The vaquero has a very fast retune all metal speed, meaning the vaquero requires fairy fast movement of the coil. While holding the button you have to really sweep.I dought you missed anything.Do some test outside,in disc mode, all metal mode, put a coin on the ground and hit the pinpoint button. You could have a problem ,but i hope not.Bury some coins. Is your soil minerialized ?If you hunt in high iron areas ,deep iron can do funny things.Don't sweat it,it's covered. To me,disc mode hits better than all metal anyway. :-D

Man, I'm good with my Vaq but I have never even come close to swinging my coil at fairy fast speeds.
Those little suckers are real quick, ya know. :)

Monte did a demo at one of our detector owner's rendevous, where he placed a dime in about 5" of store bought "Playground Sand" from Lowes in a plastic pan. 5" worth, that's all! Then he had all bring up there detectors and locate the dime. SOUNDS simple enough. A few folks couldn't find it at all, and several, myself included, had a rough time. My F5 fisher with a 5" DD coil pulled it off, just barely, running considerably hotter than I would normally run it (read: chattering profusely), but my Bandido II uMAX with a 7" coil did fine. One person with a Minelab (model 70) couldn't find it. The sand showed up as about a 75 on my phase meter on the F5. So the point is, disturbed soil matrix, mineral content, etc. make a huge difference over your results from an air test.
