i have an Excalibur 2 1000 that's working just fine,I'm just wondering why do some of you change the coil to a larger coil?/ what advantages are there to do this and what disadvantages are there for doing this??what coil is better than others??as I'm still learning about this machine just trying to get a better edge if there is any to had??i do most of my hunting on the beaches in both wet and dry sand and i do get into surf when surf permits and water temps permit....any info would be great.
thanks

I have the Sun Ray 12" coil on mine which I like very much. It covers a lot of area and is thin enough to swing in the water. I had a 15" WOT on a Sov GT which was difficult to swing in the water because of it's size. Your biggest problem now is getting someone to put a larger coil on your machine and making it waterproof. Minelab no longer will do the job with aftermarket coils or headphones and I have not heard of anyone out there that will. You do not want to tinker with your machine until the warranty runs out, then do whatever you want. From what I understand, the coil they put on the Excal II is just as good as the aftermarket larger coils. The coil on the older Excal's did not do the job as well as the larger coils that is why a lot of us changed them. Learn your machine well then make a decission, it takes a long time to learn but is profitable in the end.
