question about the tabs on Sovereign GT battery packs.

Good to hear that they are not discontinuing the Sovereign. I still wonder why they raised the price and stopped making the meter for it. Maybe they are coming out with a new Sovereign that includes the meter in the box. If they do I hope the meter is still able to be disconnected because that's handy for water hunting, wearing the control box in a bag high on your chest.

It would seem that there will always be detector buyers who don't like computer controls and LCD screens, and would rather have knobs and switches for controls. Look at the Tesoro line and some others for instance. It would make sense that Minelab would keep at least one of these style detectors in their line up.

threw out the years.I found that I could take the top with the tabs off my pack that holds the AA's and pop it on the rechargeable pack. I just picked up 2 used AA packs for a good price on the accessories forum.I do the super glue thing except I Iuse a real thin piece of cloth cut to the size of the tab and glue that on also.....

Switching the lids that have the tabs between the packs is a good idea. The rechargeable pack has glue under the lid so you have to work at it with a knife to get the rubbery glue apart and get the lid to slide off. You pull the sides apart and the lid will pop off.

I don't see the Sovereign GT advertisted in this recent flyer....

My alkaline holder now has both tabs broken off but it still sits tight in the GT. It will still click in, and if I push downward it will still click out, it's just that it doesn't have the thumb tabs sticking out the case anymore. Not a big deal, and if it does start getting loose I'll just stick a velcro strap on the bottom to hold the holder in place or something.

The tabs seem to be the only real weak point on the GT/Elite far as I know. Never heard much in the way of hardware or electronic failures on any of the Sovereigns for that matter. Seems like a very reliable machine with years of trouble free use potential. Just treat it right with no rain or sticking it in a very hot car or trunk I would think. I've used my GT in light rain a few times but only because I had hiked so far back in the woods I didn't want to leave. I try now to carry a small clear plastic bag to go over the meter and a plastic grocery bag to cover the control box. I stick the bag down over the control box/arm cup, and then poke a pole into the bottom of the bag to stick my arm through. Works great when needed.
