Question about operating frequency and new detector purchase...

I think some more research needs to be done to show how much frequency does/does not make a difference

Take a look at Monte's reply titled "Well, the box response isn't just a bogus bunch of hype. Your Gamma", in the Teknetics Forum and my post on 1-03-2013 titled " Gamma 6000 for Gold Prospecting ! ". Monte's post is down the page a ways and includes the following statement.

"I have found gold nuggets with models operating at 6.59 kHz, 7.8 kHz, 8.1 kHz, 10 kHz, 12 kHz, 13 kHz,

I hope you don't mind me sharing some thoughts. I mainly use White's detectors, but in the mix is one of my favorite Tesoro's (and there have been several I really like through the years), the Bandido II

Thank you for the input Monte! I really appreciate the information from you, and all the others that have posted. I'm totally with you on the idea of the smaller coil. That was my only reservation of buying this machine at first, that I wouldn't be able to swap to a smaller coil. So in your opinion, you think the 5 3/4" coil should perform well then? I read somewhere where you can do a simple ground balance check by just "pumping" the coil and listening for the positive or negative false signal. Just as you would if you were actually setting the ground balance on a manual ground balanced machine? Not sure if I read that correctly, but if it would work, i'm guessing that would give me a good idea as to whether or not the smaller coil is able to perform as well as the stock coil? Again, anyone who has anything to add, i'm all ears and would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the advise! I guess my only thought when it comes to the choice between the Compadre and Umax is this... With the Ace and the F5, I basically put the "sniper" coil on it after I learned the machine for awhile and it never came off. Occasionally I would put the stock coil back on thinking I would give it a shot for a day. But usually after about an hour or so the smaller coil would end up going back on! My thought is, why spend the extra bucks if I normally only use the smaller coils anyways? Is there something I would be missing with the Compadre that the Um ax would give me? Again thank you for the responses!!! I greatly appreciate your help!!!

We all have the tendency to use what we are familiar with. Be it a metal detector, coil size, locations, etc. That said I would still suggest the Silver uMax for the reason that you always have the option of changing the coil.

cju7250,

Regarding the part of your post I colored above, that's a good question and shows you're "thinking outside of the box". I'm interested in what Monte, or anyone else, might have to say about this, but I doubt that "pumping" the Compadre to get a positive or negative response will work. Since it doesn't have a Ground Balancing control knob, it follows that it might be "factory-fixed" Ground Balanced for average conditions. I'm no expert on these matters, so we will just have to wait for a reply from someone who knows. ;)

Hi cju7250 !

On page 2 of your subject thread, you said : "So I went ahead and purchased it" (meaning the Cutlass II UMax). And you were going to equip it with a 5.75" coil.

So I went ahead and purchased it, for less than a new Compadre. So i'm looking forward to getting it and getting to know it! Also, the money I saved, I can still get the 5.75" coil and lower rod and still be under the price of the new Silver Umax.

Are you still happy with your choice of the Cutlass and 5.75" coil ? Just wondering how you're making out with it.

If you don't mind, please let us know a little about your finds.

Thanks !

Before you make up your mind take a real good look at the Outlaw, i just received my new Outlaw on Wednesday and i'm really impressed, it functions just as Gunnar & 53 Silver has said in their videos, its really amazing. I did the same test with the F5 and the Outlaw, on a 14k gold band at 3" the F5 sounded off but not real strong. went to 4" the F5 lost it , no signal, no problem for the Outlaw, put it at 6" a little softer sound but still hearing it at 6", this is exactly what i was after more depth.

Really like adjusting the disc to see what your are detecting over, rather than the digital read out.

My Sand Shark has been so reliable that i just had to go Tesoro for my land and park detector.

Digger 45.........Didn't cju7250 already decide and buy the Cutlass ll UMax ? (See his statement pasted in my last post today.)

I read through both pages of the subject thread and he said he bought the Cutlass for less than the Compadre.
It didn't sound to me like he would be buying another detector.

Let me know if I missed something.....OK ?

Hi Digger 45 !

I just ran across the post below in a different Tesoro forum, so copied & pasted for your review. Based on cju7250's last statement (highlighted), you were right to suggest that he take a look at the Outlaw even though he had already purchased the Cutlass. The confusion was mine......:please: accept my apologies !

Thanks for the update Nathan! I just bought my first Tesoro (Cutlass II Umax) in January. It was used and I bought it just to give Tesoro a try, since I didn't believe I would like the whole "beep and dig" style. Even though i've only gotten to use it a couple times so far, because of the stupid weather, i've found myself doing MUCH better with finds, and really being able to slow down and watch my "form", so to speak! Anyways, since i'm loving the Tesoro, I was starting to look into buying a Vaq. or Golden to take it one step further, but then all this talk started about, well you know. So i've been keeping a close eye on this forum to see what transpired. Glad you cleared things up and now I can get excited about continuing to find that perfect Tesoro for me!

Thank You!

Frequency, smequency,Don't worry about it,if it's under the coil and within the range of your machine your gonna find it.Get a Compadre and you'll be just fine.
