Just wondering how old everyone who detects is?. What year you started, and how long you have been detecting. No cheating on the age ladies:biggrin: I started around 1972 at age 11 and have been doing it since. Now 46, I plan on detecting until I get lost or they take me away to the funny farm.:clapping:

started in '77 when high frequency tr's was all that was available for equipment!..been hunting steady ever since!..think my family will bury me with my detector!

(h.h!)

I'm 54 soon to be 55. I have been detecting for slightly over 2 years. Not sure why it took me so long as I always wanted a detector and wanted to be an archaeologist. I am a relic hunter. Started out coin shooting but that doesn't appeal to me now. I'll hunt till I die!

im 25 and have always been intrested in the hobby. finding this site and reading the posts showed that i have been missing out. for the past few months i have been getting out everychance i get learning something new each time.

well sir, im 40 now and have been detecting since 1982. im not quite old goat status yet. took a couple of breaks from the hobby for short stretches during that time. ive seen a lot of changes in the hobby, mostly good. its good excercize and it keeps me outta trouble. oh what fun it is!!!

I started with a brand new D-Tex when I was 12, lost interest due to hunting for girls. Started back again with a Garrett Groundhog and was hooked for good in 1986 I believe . I'm 48 now.

I started in 1972 or 75 (too old to remember for sure). Will be 63 next month. God how time flies. Still love the thrill of discovery that got me into the hobby in the first place. Hope I can continue on until my "swinger" breaks. The hobby never gets old, we do.

I am 46 and I started MDing in the early 70's with my parents.
They were into anything and everything pertaining to history and
I grew to love it all too.

So far I am the oldest "swinger" that has posted their age, 67. I started detecting in 1972 and have thoroughly enjoyed the hobby ever since. The best thing about my age is I am now able to metal detect daily, and do, barring really bad weather conditions. This is a wonderful hobby. HH jim tn

I am 58 years old.

Got my first MD when I was about 33 years old. It broke a couple years later.

Didn't get another one until Sep. 2007.

HH,

I'm 63, started detecting three years ago, love it.

Well I am 21 on my left side, 21 on my right side, and a little more than that, top to bottom...been detecting about 30 years...But I started young LOL

Im 33 started detecting a couple yeaars ago with an xlt my dad got from a guy he worked with that needed some cash, i think he just wanted to help the guy out and really never used it so i borrowed it and used it a bit throughout the summer. I was living in an old home at the time so i checked out the yard. I was overjoyed to find a 14k wedding band on my third day using it. I figured some guy must have thrown it at his wife in the heat of battle:argue: well soon after my dad moved to cali and took the detector with him. But i still had the itch to hunt so i just purchased a DFX and am waiting for the winter to be over here in CT. so i can get back in the game and make you guys jealous with all my finds

STARTED WITH A GROUNDHOG IN 1998. NOW HAVE A GTI 2500 AND A ACE 250.
COMEING UP ON 68'

First got started in the early 70s and gave up the machines just wouldn't do what was promised jumped back in a few years ago with the thought of retirement pending
should have stayed the first time today's machines are wonderful or I'm getting old. Am 54 now plan on retirement in 2010 two years to go have all my toys ready to go. Dan

Started back in 1973 when there was no disc on any detector, used a Whites then and used many different ones over the years. I think that has help with no disc to learn what you can about the target before you dig. Been detecting ever since and just turn 60 back in October and will probably have a detector in my hands when I leave this world so I can keep on detecting , I pray I don't have to have one that will with stand a lot of heat.
It is a wonderful hobby Isn't it?

Been in the hobby of metal detecting for 29 yrs. started with a whites 4db. Now have Teknetics T2. after using 7 other detectors. Am 69 now.
