Quattro on the way.

Well-known member
I just got a Quattro off the big board, should be here first of week, I have always wanted one of these detectors, hope this is a good one. I will be asking alot of questions about it. Anyone that has used one or had one, please get ready to help me. It is heavy i know but i use a MXT most of the time so not much more than that. Everyone said it went deep, i hope so, i need tofind some silver. Thanks flintstone

Nice machine but slow. I think it’s pretty much the same as the Safari. Guessing about half the folks that have owned one of them and the Etrac say their performance is similar other than the 2 numbers, disc screen and the Etrac has a faster processor.

Congrats on your new detector. I think you will be very happy with it. A few years ago I sold my Etrac and kept my Quattro. Easier to use and equal too or better in performance. Especially with the small coil.

Thanks guys, i will let you know when i get it. It looked like new. i have always wanted to try one, and i go slow anyway. How small is the small coil you are talking about? i think it comes with the 8" coil and headphones.

I had one for a while, but I think it was a earlier one as I was a Minelab dealer at the time and seen a problem with mine, they sent me a new one and it was no better, but for hunting with it I had seen something that impressed me and even got a signal my friend with the Explorer couldn't get, it was a IH penny and it was deep, so it did impressed me. I just got another Quattro earlier this month off the forums that even has a SunRay probe with it, that look like it was used very little as it looks like new . I wasn't looking for one right now, but the price was just too good to pass it up. Now as soon as it warms up around here I will be seeing if it will be OK or not and sell it, was told they made some changes after the first production and if they did it is going to be one great detector.
Let us hear how it works out for you, hope it will do well for you.

Rick

I owed one and couldn't get rid of it soon enough. It's a beautiful machine and yes, it can go a few inches deeper than my C$, but the swing has to be so slow to process the target. I much prefer a fast processor so I get so I can scoot when I'm detecting. I was at a seeded beach hunt years ago and there was a young kid there using a Quattro and was finding nothing. I felt sorry for him and let him use my C$ while I used another detector that I brought with me. By the end of the hunt, he found more than I did and he won a very nice detector. I was using a new on the market Minelab Xterra 70 I believe.

Hey Flintstone, I have never used the Quattro, but I do have and use the Safari. If it is anything like the Safari, I believe you will really like it. As you say, I am a slow swinger myself being meticulous, and listening for the tones. I am more of a relic hunter, but like to hunt the beaches when given the chance. The Safari does well on relics, coins & jewelry, and as a beach hunter. The only drawback is it is a bit heavy, but I made a makeshift sling that does well and takes the weight off of my shoulder. I would say that this has been one of my favorite all time detectors. I wish you nothing but Success with your Quattro. Let us know when you get it and what you think. Happy Hunting, and Go Getum'!

Thanks Confetrit, I am 73 years old and there is on reason for me to start trying to go fast now. I have a swingy thing, i will fixt something up. I have always wanted one of these and the chance never did come up. I seen this one for $299.00 and i jumped on it. I hope it is a good one. The mail is so slow , it is still not here. It is coming from TX. , i could of drove there and back by now. Postal has got to be a joke anymore, and they just keep raisen the price. I will keep you all imformed. flintstone

The biggest difference in the FBS machines and speed is the visual processor.. I've not found one faster than the next in hitting targets audio wise,,, but the visual display does update faster on say a explorer SE than that of a explorer 2..
I love the safari, probably my favorite FBS machine..the Quattro is a safari imo..The stock coil on the Quattro is very nose heavy and not that good imo,,get yourself a better coil and you'll do a lot better, weight wise, seperation and depth for sure. I have a like new Pro coil for sale if interested.

Another thing I wanted to say about FBS,safari,Quattro etc..they not only hit hard on nickels and gold, but at depth and ID them better than anything. I always read they're no good on anything but high conductors but I've found just as many nickels if not more with a FBS than any other machine. Found this small gold with a FBS too, solid midtone hit at 6 inches easy..

Yes sir, the postal service is a bit slow, but maybe they'll take care of your Quattro in shipment. You'll do just fine with the swingy thing. It will take the little extra weight off your shoulder. I'm right behind you, turning 69 this coming month, so I know what your talking about. You got a great deal on the Quattro. Wishing you all the Best of Luck. Maybe it will soon arrive for you.
