Pulled the trigger on a Legend

I have only have used a couple tesoro detectors, but am in need of a waterproof detector for some of my future hunts. I still have my Mojave and Vaquero and will sell when the tune is right, or not. These digital detectors will be something I have yet to play with, so I am sure there is a steep learning curve, especially for me.
 
You will be pleased with the Legend. It is a very intuitive unit to learn, easy to run & will surprise you at what all it finds.

one of the nice things about the legend is the audio can be adjusted to each individuals liking, the volumes for each tone break can be adjusted as well as the pitches of each tone break can be adjusted to your liking

Thanks. It seems very customizable and once I get it home I'm sure to spend a lot of time messing around with it. Being somewhat young compared to others in this hobby (37), I feel I will have a lot of figuring out to do with this new digital detector.

The Legend is a pretty simple SMF detector to learn

first what version is your Legend on, if you have not done so I suggest you update it to 1.09 at the very least, or to the latest update which is 1.11, and also download and print out the manual for what ever version you update to, then set down in an easy chair with the manual and read it, a couple of times then set there with your legend powered up and manual opened up and go page by page and familiarize yourself with all the settings, and buttons this will make it easier when you go out and start detecting

I also recommend when just starting out starting with the factory settings, maybe just tweek the tone volumes and tone pitches to your liking
 
Oldkoot is spot on with his suggestions. I started with factory default on four tone but switched to six tone (just my hearing preference). My F75 has 99 VDI and the Legend has 60, that was a bit different to digest at first. I generally pay no attention to the VDI until I hit a good solid tone and then I see what the numbers are. Beware here tho as 98% of the time a 25 is a nickel but a 26 is usually trash but not all the time. Same with penny vs dime numbers. If it hits solid dig……
So far in the areas I play the Legend has hit targets other have missed too. Take the time to read and play and set up a target board where you can hear the differences in tone settings.

I dug a perfect rock solid 25 the other day.
Said 6" down.
At 2-3 inch's I dig a perfectly round ball of can slaw.
Oh well.

I also started out on 4 tones and switched to 6 tones, for me personally it is easier to assign a different pitch for each coin I may encounter when out detecting, 6 tones if set up correctly you can pretty much put every clad coin in a different tone brake section it does take a bit of adjusting and thinking about what each coin rings up but it can be done, with a little patience

Scott Lupro (Mental Metal Detecting on youtube) has a very good coin program that works great, the only down side of Scott's coin program is you will miss some gold jewelry with his coin program if you do not tweek his settings some, I set Scott's coin program up in one custom user profile and then set it up again in a second custom user profile and tweaked it so as to not miss gold targets when coin hunting

Just keep in mind this is a coin program and if you do not tweak Scotts settings you will absolutely miss gold jewelry and some other good targets

I don’t specifically coin hunt because it’s nothing but clad around here. Jewelry is probably the most sought after thing around here. Does he have a “jewelry” program?

no he does not have a jewelry program, never could understand why any one detecting would not detect for everything, I detect for clad, gold jewelry and nuggets and relics the only thing I do not do is water hunt and the only reason I do not water detect is because there is no large bodies of water near my location

Different people are interested in different things. To me clad is as interesting as bottle caps and pulltabs, id rather find old junk. You can understand it by thinking you are going out to specifically hunt pulltabs
