protecting from heat

Definitely let me know herb. Also if it was in direct sunlight. I have a black car and I assume that will raise the temp up inside quite a bit.

I believe coils can be damaged by the heat as well as the components in the control box. I vaguely remember someone knowledgeable saying that DD coils are more susceptible to heat damage than concentrics.

Dave Johnson if you are still sniffing about, maybe you can chime in, and don't get me started about the Escort:thumbdown:

so far the readings wrapped in a heavy blanket in the trunk are 10* cooler than outside, and as much as 20-25 degrees cooler than the passenger compartment.

I've never checked the temps but my T-2 hasn't been out of the trunk except to use it since I got it several years ago. I went out last week for the first time since January and it worked fine.

I don't leave mine in the vehicle, but occasionally travel overnight and plan to.

If you stop and think of it, the minelabs would come on a container ship which is of course not climate controlled. The ship would spead several days near the equator, developing heat Potentially beyond what our cars could build up in one day. (Especially if the windows are cracked).

Just a thought.

My detector is like a tool. I treat my tools right and they take care of me.If you want to leave that kind of investment in a car so be it. One reason I dont like buying used as you never know how it was taken care of. Another thing that I worry about is humidity. The seals will eventually leak. All but one of my detectors is not water resistant.
