have a question for any who use the Proscoop like the one below.

Does the sand drain out too fast, leaving the sand deposited back in the hole you've dug as you pull the scoop out, or can you get the scoopful out of the hole before the sand drains out ??

I have a new dry sand scoop that is driving me crazy because it draining the sand back into the hole and the item is two and three scoops deep.

I need to get my better half a new water scoop that takes a good bite out, but then drains pretty quick in order to keep the weight off for her but I do not want it to fill in the holes while she is pulling it out. She spends allot of her time in the wash and needs to move a scoop of the sand/shell out of the way in order to get to the item.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks, Kevin

the wooden handle is great, plus it floats.

first few days i had it i did not like the 90* handle set up, but now i would never go back to conventional style.

and the best part of this scoop is it saves all those pain in the ass small targets that fall through most scoops....................unless one adds small mesh wire to them.

now..............your other questions.....................sand varies in size ............or at least it does around where i hunt...........certain areas have rocks..........small and large.....scoop has SMALL SQUARE HOLES.............the rest u will have to figure out on your own.

i have never heard anyone ask such questions.............what u ask is imposssible, it is just part of the water hunting nature.......sometimes targets will be one scoop and other times......14 scoops. that is what one needs a good sturdy scoop for working the water and damp sand.

there are many nice scoops available out there on the market...............if u stick at this................u will end up trying several before u settle on just the scoop for u..............people try and find just one scoop for all areas of the beach.............dry.......wet......water.................i found it impossible and i have toooo many scoops for this reason as i suspect many of us do.

good luck on your quest.

Great post. Max. They ship this without the handle, correct? Where locally can you buy the correct handle?

mine and the one i sold sarge came with this fantastic wooden handle..........i have bought one piece of crap post hole digger handle just in case this one were to break........knock on wood it has not ever.

it is some sort of special wood.........ash........oak.........i wish i knew, i am going to take it to Yukon lumber in norfolk soon and see if i can buy a piece of it.....they specialize in fancy woods their.

problem is, most of the newer post hole diggers are round now.........

after many months of use, i find the wooden handle to be the absolute best part of the scoop.........never slippery.........smoolth ......great to grib...........just the right dia........i do wish it was 6 to 12" longer for working in the bay..........i add a pve extension to it when i know i am going there.

u would have to ask tim at treasurers down under if they ship with handlels..........................

ok i like it
please tell me where i might get one of these scoops at?? pm me if you can
thanks
john

Max,
Thanks for the close up picture with the small treasures on the scoop! That answers what I had been wondering about hole size!!!

Kind of hard to have too many scoops ... like the detectors, it's the money that limits how many.

fell through the holes of my old scoops. I like the fact that sand flows out quickly. It save a lot or work but do not have a problem of it going back in the hole. By the time I get the scoop up to see what's in it the sand is gone. No more shaking. I also didn't like the 90 degree angle like Max but am getting used to it.

Thanks allot, everyone has been very helpful and like the rest, thank you for the close up pics Max. This has been what I needed so now it is off to order land:twodetecting:

The PS water scoop is an excellent scoop. I have been using the older version, found a few things I didn't like about it that needed improvement based on a water scoop I owned about 8 years ago.

Found PS scoop had a tendency to to rock a bit when first digging in, especially in hard rocky bottoms. Made two adjustments. Took about 10 minutes.

1) Squared off the tip---using a Dremel Tool with a cut-off wheel
2) Flattened the bottom---using a 5lb. head hammer

Flattening the bottom has another benefit that there is a better chance you will scoop up a target that may be off to the side of the scoop some.
(My scoop now works 100% better than it did)

I also rounded the edges of the square sided post hole digger wooden handle. Much easier on the hands.

My next mod that I am working on is an S-handle that will angle the scoop in a more vertical position. That will also bring the upper handle backwards, so as to not have to reach so far forward. I am checking into making an aluminum or stainless adapter for the wooden handle so it will still float. Last option is to make a new S-handle of all metal. Put on hold at the moment, after looking at the material that is available. Best option is getting a pc. of round aluminum tubing, 6 foot long 6061T 1.25" dia. x .25" wall thickness and have it bent or welded. Cost $65.00. Looks like the wooden handle will work fine for now.

Last mod is to increase the foot pad size, a big foot tends to slide off a tad when wearing scuba booties.

I'd love to have a scoop like I once did but, the maker stopped making them years ago. Per scoop cost was too high compared to what he was selling them for. He probably only made about 25 of them. I can see why after pricing out handle material.

I like the look of the new PS, smaller holes, better drain thru and looks like it catches smaller items. Like to get one.

ProScoop is my new favorite.
The mod that you see is very simple. Other factors are not shown in the pic.
The angle is about 30deg. (original bracket).
20deg. would be preferred, but I'll live with it.

here is my modification to my Proscoop, I tried the straight handle and did not like it, then a 15 degree one and it was so so. Then I came up with this one. I cut up a bunch of thin strips and made a form and glued it to a shape I liked. This is the fourth hooked one and I finally got it like I like it. Total weight is about 5 1/2 pounds. I only dig wet sand with no rocks and it has held up well so far I can go straight down or any other angle comfortably

i HAD A PROscoop and didnt like it for wet sand it was very heavy when completely full . I felt it took a long time to drain , the up right handle was hard to use if you wanted to go straight down on an object. I sold it Im sorry now because I think it would have made an excellent in the water scoop Its large and it will drain a lot faster with water going thru it. Just my opinion
