Problems with T-Rex Scoop

DaytonaGold, is your handle tapered and only fits snugly at top portion of the tubing it fits into. I turned mine in a metal lathe to 1.375" +.002" diameter and cut end off at a 20 deg angle to fit tightly all the way down in tubing to reduce stress on the area yours broke. Anyone with a wood lathe or hobby lathe should be able to do this relatively easy. I actually cut the standard tapered end off that comes on most handles while cutting the 20 deg angle. May be worth a try to reduced stress to welded area while digging.

Best regards, Walt

I cut off the tapered end and while I don't have a lathe, I used a wood file to file down the part that went into the metal tube of the T-Rex, took me a while to do that but I have used my T-Rex for over a year now and haven't had any problems. Maybe that is the reason it hasn't broken? You may have something there.....HH

Les, No insult taken but...I am NOT a serious beach hunter, just a guy who loves this hobby and a person that believes that you should get what you pay for. It must be nice however to afford extra metal detectors, scoops, gear, etc., not all of us have that luxury. I do my homework and look for the highest quality items that I can afford in order to insure that these items that I purchase will last me a while . You're right, the world does not revolve around me but when I pay for a $50.00 scoop and it only lasts a week I realize I get what I paid for, when I purchase a $169.00 scoop because I know it will last longer than the $50.00 scoop and then it doesn't I then have a real problem.

I also have the right to voice my opinion and inform others (who are willing to shell out their hard earned money) that the item in question here does not live up to it's standards, at least not mine and I do not expect the world to stop revolving, just a simple return email from the company that I purchased this item would have been ok. My scoop may be 1 in 100 that has had this problem but other consumers should know what they could expect when they purchase this product and I will gladly inform them about it and the company that represents that item. :)

You say that the shipping to send the scoop back was outrageous. You spent more having it welded than UPS charges to ship the scoop from Miami to New Jersey. Their web page says about $18.00 to ship the scoop without the handle.

I agree with you that the Manufacturer should have fixed the scoop but I do find your claim that shipping would have been outrageous just a little over the top.

You must not have read my previous posts, I had the option to send it back or for about the same price I could have had it welded locally and avoided nearly two weeks of not having a scoop.. Also I assumed the welder would have fixed it, so I'm not sure what your point is?

Hi Daytona Gold, I totally AGREE with YOU about the RIGHT to Voice Your Opinion!! I WOULDN'T have it ANY OTHER WAY!! BEST of LUCK to YOU, Les Robinson.

DaytonaGold,,
I was on vacation when you said that you e-mailed me. I checked my e-mails every day while I was away but did not see anything about a T-Rex problem. Maybe it went to spam. I do not read all the forums daily and was told by a customer of mine that there was negative post. A simple phone call could have resolved this problem but instead you chose to bring it to a public forum. As far as new design we look to improve our products all the time. You will see changes and new designs often. As before I said that I would replace the scoop and the offer still stands but next time a simple phone call would have been appropriate. I would like to thank all above who responded in defense of me and my product. This all could have been avoided with a phone call.

DaytonaGold,
I was on vacation when you said that you sent me an e-mail in reference to a problem with my T-Rex sand scoop. I checked my e-mails daily while I was away and did not see your e-mail. It may have went to spam. A simple phone call would have resolved this problem instead you chose to bring it to a public forum. I offered to replace the scoop but you chose not to send it back. My offer still stands and I will replace the scoop if you would like. You will always see changes and new designs on all of my products because we work hard at making these products better. For all the folks above who defended me and my product I thank you. This could have been avoided with a simple phone call.

I do not know who I'm addressing from T-Rex but I would like to talk to you. I only responded to the email in which you sent me a while back so I assumed someone would definetly get back with me. I did mention in a previous post that your product is high quality and I'm sure that my scoop had a flaw. What I wasn't happy about is the manner is which my inquiry was not addressed. I would glady let everyone know here at Find's that you have correctly taken care of this issue.

Call me tomorrow and lets get this straighten out. My number is 908-595-9933. I open 10:00AM . Anytime during the day is fine.

UPDATE !!! Ron from Golddiggers sent me a brand new scoop. The scoop has been upgraded right in the exact same spot where mine broke. I am very pleased and extremely happy with it and want to say thank you to Goddiggers for coming through after all. If I should ever have a problem I will call instead of sending an email.
