Problem with CTX please read before buying

I'd like to go out and get some silver unlike my normal beach hunting. Who has a good silver program I can download

I have contacted the only individual know to me owning a Minelab CTX 3030, the individual lives withing 15-20 minutes of me, the individual said he would call me 2 weeks ago to arrange a time when he could meet me up and look at the 3030 but never called.

In the past couple days someone in the forums suggested some setting which I tried today, the settings seemed to help once I spent half my time out messing around with the volume, gain, pitch and level settings. as is now I have the sound of the threshold hum set as close as I can get it to sound iron/junk, all said is an improvement, I'm starting to think the occurance of iron/junk where I have been hunting could just be so frequent the threshold hum can't recover before encontering more iron/junk target but I do know minelab replaced the Explore II I owned for doing the same as what the 3030 is doing.

I don't know if anyone can make heads or tails from the photo shown but the photo is a auto reject pattern created when standing still to swing the coil from side to side, I didn't step forward but did extend my arm forward to over lap my l/r swing, once I extended my arm forward as possible without having to step forward I saved the reject pattern. The area coverd in the reject pattern is probably a 3' forward and 5' side to side.. Hope I made since, if not was just hoping somone could look at the reject pattern and give me some idea what might be in the ground to cause the area shown to be rejected. Also I have done this at different areas to find the same thing occurs, in one instance almost all 1750 blocks of the screen was rejected.

My recommendation would be to find someone that is nearby you with a CTX, explorer or e-trac, or a friendly dealer that could take a look at it ... For both detectors themselves to experience the same issue seems unlikely, and then having Minelab tell you it is working fine even is even more strange...Are you using the same set of headphones? Only over the same ground?

It has me curious for sure...

Unfortunately you have rejected all coins and jewelry. The vast majority of GOOD targets will fall between 11 and 13 on the ferrous line. Do not use that program again. That is why you cant hear the hum of your threshold. You have blocked all the targets which will cause the threshold to blank out.

This is not a pattern I use, I created the pattern using the 3030 to create the pattern I selected MENU/COIN/EDIT/P2/MENU/Edit Type "Auto Reject/Menu/Reject All then swept the coil over a 3' x 5' area of ground. Based on the pattern everything rejected is what the coil passed over while swinging it over the 3' x 5' area of ground.

WOW! That is either the worst ground I've ever seen....there are an abundance of good targets hiding there.....or there is a problem with your detector and/or coil. If you can get ahold of that guy again, try to meet up with him so you can determine what is going on. Use your detector/your coil....his detector/his coil......your detector/his coil.......his detector/your coil. See what combination (if any) works at that site. If none of them work, it might be the soil or the number of targets. It isn't the typical "soil contamination" I find around here, as the ferrous numbers are way too low. (high on the screen). If you determine it is your detector and/or coil, get it fixed! Since they come with a 3-year warranty, and it's been out around 2-years, it shouldn't be a problem. If you call Minelab first, they can tell you how to arrange service for that part of the world. Good luck! Let us know what you figure out. HH Randy

The pattern is one of a couple patterns created, the other is far worse due to nearly all 1750 blocks on the screen being rejected, seeing nearly all the blocks rejected leaves me thinking there is no way there could possibly be enough crap in the ground to reject everthing on the screen but I could be wrong.

With no descrimination eratic traces appears all over the screen in red and blue, once second its not bad the next the screen looks like the 4th of July. Also the reject pattery shown I went back over with target trace pinpoint turned on and the trace built up to rurn almost all that is rejected red.

Maybe only in theory but if you took a fully disc. out pattern set to accept all and passed it over as close as possible to the same area you should get a pattern just the opposite of the one you have above within reason.

If so i would start digging and see what is there.

I have tried this but no success in finding anything but trash, the bigger problen is no threshold hum when swinging the coil and everything that sounds to be good is nohing but nuts, bolts, pull tabs, bottle caps u name it I have it. What I have not found is gold, silver. Clad is now just over $1.00 in well over 40 hour to search personal property, city park, fair grounds and the property where someone ask that I search for a gold ring lost while opening a gate. Ironic is I owned an Explorer III which seemed to have the same issues, minelab replaced the Explorer III with a new Explorer III, with the replacement I. Found a 1945 half dollar and 32 pennies in just under 2 hrs of searching the same area where I was asked to search for the gold ring.

Sounds more like an EMI issue - something broadcasting in the area? I was at a park once where the CTX screen would begin flashing about like something from the X-files. Just in one particular area - not broadcast. Probably underground power cables. It rendered the CTX useless in that area.

Then there was the time the CTX began making erie clicking sounds and turning on and off - but it would only happen when something would move in the corn field. Hmmm.

I live a few miles from town, the only house within 1/4 mile of me has a wireless router, cordless phone and cell phone just as i do. No powerplants, factories or fences near by.

The closest radio tower is 2 miles away and is a cell phone tower

I live in a low area surronded by hills I dont fell the cell tower would be an issue because of knowing that I can't make a celluar call without having to make the calldo from the 2nd floor, outside at ground level I have no cell service.
