Problem with CTX please read before buying

foreign object

I have had my CTX for 4 months now and because of weather and other things have not got to use it as much as i would like other than my yard. Well it has really started to click and i am feeling more confident in it all the time.

The problem is that in the last three hunts i have dug more silver coins with the CTX than any maqchine i have owned all put together. So you ask what is the problem?
First let me say that my CTX has a home.
The problem is i have shared with the better half my silver finds and even presented her with a nice ring that i found yesterday. Well to me part of the fun in metal detecting is trying and using different machines. Seeing as i will most likely never nuget hunt and unless i fall out of my boat will never go diving i cant figure out any way to justify another machine.

Moral of the story is if you intend to buy a CTX and might have a problem with buying a 2nd machine i sugest you get the 2nd machine first and it will also give you an excuse to buy the CTX.

fun! At first I was rolling my eyes when I saw the title thinking, oh boy what's going on now....

I feel confident enough to say these days that the combination of an awesome machine and awesome places to detect have made these past few years of detecting for me more successful than the 27 or so that preceded them

I also seem to be having good luck with my silver finds since I got my ctx last year my explorer se pro took a back seat to my at pro this yearthe at pro I tink will sit as the ctx is so good

I have never been more satisfied with any detector than I am with the CTX. I sold my first one. And I really don't like repeating mistakes. Unless detector technology takes a leap in the near future I can say that my CTX will be around for some time to come.

Well I can say that coming from Goodmore it is a understatement. When something he has does not perform to his standards, or it's an backup...he sales it....

yeah its a pretty dang tough machine to beat!

I sold my CTX last fall. I had no problem this spring buying a 2nd machine. I bought a CTX. I could not bear downgrading.

Right now I've got 6 machines of varied brands and types and I really would like to get another machine.....a back up CTX!.... Sadly though, I think the other half has limited me to 6 so I have to figure out which one goes to get that back up...... that is the hard part for me.....choosing which one of the other 5 goes....

About the only thing I would want besides the CTX would be like a Pocket Fishermen of a metal detector... Something I could easily carry along while going on short hikes, or very mini hunts on tot lots with the kids....

Take a look at the minelab xterra. They breakdown into a pretty manageable size, if you separate the control head and coil from the rods while transporting.

I have now owned a ctx 3030 for. Just over 2 months and my finds in more than 40 hours of use is less that $1.00 in coins, all else has been junk.

Maybe you're swinging the wrong end near the ground?

Seriously though I don't know if you are serious. But if you are something is seriously wrong with where you are detecting, how you are detecting, or where you are detecting

I have posted this message before regarding junk targets on a site VS good targets like coins, the fact is as time moves on sites gradually get cleared out of MOST of the good stuff , targets like high conductors get cleaned out fast. I found 2000 -3000 coins on a nice un detected field years ago and that was with 2 machines, a

Woooooh! Speedy got censored. I guess being a little harsh on the the ol mine labs is strictly verboten. He was simply pointing out the negatives of the ctx3030.

Realistically it is a darn fine machine t hat can be improved upon in the future and Speedy was pointing out some of these areas as food for thought for the minlab engineers. With a bit of sarcasm.

To the guy that can only find 2.5 cents per hour with his or her ctx3030.

I say well than stop digging garbage! That's what this machine is all about , no more digging garbage.

Give us some details we can get you on the right track and fast.

People... If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area.. Please take this gentleman's advice and buy the other detector first.. It will give you something to look forward to.. This will also give ME the time I need to find all silver that you miss. :) Thanks for your consideration

Guessing that I would be the one swinging the wrong end of the detector.. what I'm swing is a detector that is working exactly the same as an Explorer II that minelab replaced because of being defective. long story short i have no audible threshold hum when swinging the coil on the 3030,
In 2006 the Explorer ii I purchased new had no threshold hum audible when swinging the coil, minelab said it was defective and replaced it. The ctx 3030 is doing the exact same thing out of the box as the Explorer III, I contacted minelab 3-4 times to be issued an rma the ctx 3030 is looked at by minelab then returned with no problems found yet I get it back to find I still have no threshold hum audible when swinging the coil. What now

My recommendation would be to find someone that is nearby you with a CTX, explorer or e-trac, or a friendly dealer that could take a look at it ... For both detectors themselves to experience the same issue seems unlikely, and then having Minelab tell you it is working fine even is even more strange...Are you using the same set of headphones? Only over the same ground?

It has me curious for sure...

Certainly sounds like something you are doing wrong. Compare it with another CTX or take it to someone who can visually help you with it.

It has been a few years since I used an Explorer II. But if I recall correctly, there was only one adjustment for Threshold on it. When you set the Threshold, it set the same level for use with or without headphones. I ain't saying there isn't the possibility of there being a problem with your detector. But if Minelab checked it out and returned it without a repair, it might be nothing more than adjustments. Remember that the CTX3030 has four different settings for Threshold. One for use with the detector's speaker, one for use with headphones, one for use with the Wireless module speaker and one for use with the Wireless mod and headphones. Each of these are independently adjustable via the Audio menu. So if you haven't set the Threshold for each "device" you are listening to, you may not hear it properly. In other words, if you set the Threshold for the speaker and then plugged in your headphones, you will have to also make a separate Threshold setting for the headphones. And if you use the Wireless module, you will have to do that for the Wireless module speaker........ and again with the headphones plugged into the Wireless module. Just a thought. HH Randy
