possible silver half...

dug this "melted" coin size blob this morning... it sang out a perfect 12-47/48 which is in the silver range but I thought it was just melted lead. got home and washed it off and noticed a slight rim and the edge is reeded???? could it possibly be a silver half melted in a fire? I took a few pics of it next to a Barber quarter and Walking half for size comparison. I guess I'll never know exactly what coin it is but I bet it's silver.

I've dug a couple of "globs" with reeded edges that I suspected were silver quarters. What I did was weigh them and compare the results to the weight listed in the red book of coins. Turned out the weights were right on.

Interesting to say the least. By the looks of things I’d say you were on fire!

Use the spit and aluminum to start an electrolysis process, if it results in a rotten egg smell its silver!
