polar plot VS bottle tops

calibil

Member
Seems the polar plot ID's bottle caps better (CIRCULAR squiggly PATTERN) than the humps, but the humps I.D pull tabs better with dual mismatched humps. is this always the case?

The pinpoint bars do it quicker, and you have to pinpoint a target irregardless. Why take the extra time on a bottle cap?

Jack ;
When you have a ID say an 82 or 83 and look at the 3 freq pinpoint bars,, is the 2.5 bar the
smallest when you would have a bottlecap ,I think I remember you saying you keep your
bottlecap setting on 0. And is their other ways of telling you it is a bottecap also?

I'm not much help on the analyze screen, but I agree with Jack that if you get a quarter VDI and the 2.5 is not dominate, you almost always will have a bottlecap and you will know that within the first second or two after going to pinpoint mode.

The Polar Plot is the ticket. It has saved me a bunch of dig time. I have changed my analyze screen to Polar Plot full time as it's a quick look for the 3 straight lines and they are pretty much accurate. I previously used the camel humps to analyze before I got the "i" upgrade. When I received my upgraded V3 back from White's I was intrigued with PP so I started using it. At first I dug a lot of things that read no good and I knew were no good just to make sure I felt comfortable with PP and could trust it. Every time it said it was a bad target it was. However once in a while it would say it's a good target and it would not be. It still pretty much ID's most pop tops as a good target but as you know that's a toughy.

One thing to watch out for is a good target beside a bad target. I have had a couple of those and I was getting the straight lines but blurred. I dig the blurred straight lines just for that reason.
Just thought I would put my 2 cents in.

I don't use either screen. Use which ever one you like. Rob

So far I haven't tried the Polar Plot - this is sounding interesting. I didn't even think of trying it the last time out, never entered my mind.

The only time I use analyze mode is if I feel have two targets in close proximity. It does a good job at helping in this scenario. Useless on deep targets for the most part.

Although I haven't tried polar plot, I do use analyze mode more often. I have a Vision and not the V3i. I put together a quick cheat sheet for you all.

How to Differentiate between Bottlecaps vs. Quarters with Spectra V3

Quarter and Bottlecap targets share the same V.D.I. of which fall into 82 to 85

Watch for % of probability of target in Analyze Mode

7% to 25% = Bottlecaps
60% to 85% = Quarters

When in Analyze Mode there are 3 frequencies shown, aka "Camel Humps"
2.5 kHz = Green
7.5 kHz = Red
22.5 kHz = Blue

The Green line or 2.5 kHz are both shared by Bottlecaps and Quarters.
On the Analyze Screen Mode, the Bottlecap (Green) will show up below the Red & Blue frequency lines.
On the Analyze Screen Mode, the Quarter (Green) will show up above the Red & Blue frequency lines.

Hope this helps,

TC-NM

OK, I don't use either the polar or analysis screen. Why, I don't, because I don't know what information I gain over the audio, search screen and pin point screen. Now I'm always willing to learn so any ideas are welcome. Help with bottle caps is not needed.

I tested both screens extensively and just don't see the advantage of using them with my type of hunting. I don't see them telling the difference between a tab and nickel, or a gold ring from trash. You don't see that many posts about the two screens.

the audio in mixed mode stereo is a way cool feature if you can put up with the sounds, close targets iron/coin types that I had previously passed over in other modes or with another detector can be found. Try it in a less trashy area till you get used to the sound kaleidoscope.

I have found using the pin-point screen, that quarters hit green (2.5) more dominate, screw caps hit red (7.5) more dominate, and crown caps hit blue (blue) more dominate. The best I.D. method out there IMO. Just my two cents worth.
