Pocket Uniprobe

Hi guys,

Iam in the UK and the pocket uniprobe is the best that I have ever used.

My hearing is not as good as it was when I was younger and I went to local guy who builds headsets to suit an indivduals person needs.

When i told him about the probe he said let me think about it and later this week will bring a box over with a mini amplifier and speaker to plug into the mini probe box.

I gather that it will be powerd by its own battery as it the probe box.

I will carry the extra unit in my spare outer jacket chest pocket.

Well there you are guys you are not on your own and its a small world.Jerry.

And uses 1 AA battery. The Uniprobe is still no good for small gold. My Vibra probe is better at the small gold then the Uniprobe and it ain't the best but better then the Uniprobe. As soon as I get my ID Excell back from Fisher I am going to make it into a Pin pointer. Had to send it back to Fisher as it never would ground balance as it always gave 3 beeps. My ID Edge worked every time on ground balance. Hope you can find the little amp speakers as they work great. I will now probably sell the uniporbe now That I got it working right. :D: :D: Later Jerry aka Tinfoil.

I like the probe but it has some design flaws, one of which is that speaker. Can't hardly hear it through my Timberwolf Predators.

I got around it by converting it to a inline probe. I used a stereo splitter. Plug one end of the y into the probe, and the other end of the y into a 1/8 by 1/4 adapter and then into the detector. Plugged my headphone with adapter into the main end of the splitter. Works good. Except with the TW Predators not every machine uses the same switch arrangement and I wind up having to flick a switch on the headphone when ever I want to use the probe. Not that big of a deal but something to be aware of.

Don't like the belt clip either. Someone posted a fix for that a while back. Seems it fit ok into a cell phone holster and that seemed to keep it from falling off and bouncing on the ground so often.

Another design flaw is that darn 1/8" jack. You have to use an 1/8" x 1/4" adapter on it which puts a lot of strain on that itty bitty internal jack box. Its real easy to spring so that the speaker is always shorted out and only headphones will give you audio.

Anyway, thought I would commiserate with you a bit. Try the stereo splitter and mount it as a inline.

A small round I pod speaker. It has a switch on it and uses 1 AA battery and is really loud. Can hear it well above the auto traffic and with my Timberwolf or my Troy Phones on. I had to have my probe hard wired in my pocket Probe as that coax connector is a real piece of junk. The Pocket Probe still ain't worth a damn on the small gold or stud earings. I think the I pod round speaker was $27 in the I pod accessory section of walmart. I cured all my problems though as I got a Sunray probe for my ID Excell and made a pinpointer out of the Excell. Since They decided to not make a smaller coil for the Id Excell and I could not get anything for it I just made a pinpointer out of it. Man it really works great. Had to send my Golden back to Tesoro for the 3rd time as they can't seem to get it adjusted right. They had to change the PC and it has not worked right since they fixed it. No depth this time and the tones just are not adjusted right on it since they changed the PC. Hope they get it fixed this time. Later bud. Quit screwing around with the Pocket probe and send it to them and get it hard wired like I did. Don't ever have to worry about the crappy connector they put on it. I think Paul used a swivial connector and he liked how that worked. :D: :D: Jerry aka Tinfoil

But I'll get a photo up somehow. Mike

The stereo splitter. Radio Shack I tapped mine about halfway down so that the wires wouldn't pull apart all the way to the main plug.

Then a picture of the plug ends.

Then a picture with an adapter cable so you can wear the probe on your belt.

Then a picture with the splitter plugged right into the probe. This is where you would have it tied to the pole.

[attachment 66992 06.jpg] Went to Radio Shack today and got an iPod stereo AMP (1-AA battery) Radio Shack part number 4000130 (also has a Model Number T-SPKR1B) (comes in a Black or White color) for $19.95 Made by iSymphony. Works loud enough to hear over my Jimmi Sierra Maxi-Phone II headphones, and both the speakers work on the Amp. *As an added BONUS this amp MAY allow a little extra depth (without headphone interferance) Small switch is provided on back of AMP, 1 Green Power On LED provided. I added 2 strips of RUFF side Velcro to the Amp, so now it sticks to Velcro provided on Uniprobe as original. Amp has 1/8" stereo plug on middle side of unit otherwise, and this holds on good. But I make Sure with the Velcro. The Amp also fits the pocket probe very well, does not stick out the back (flush with case on back) and sticks out the front a little bit (about same as original speaker). I carry the probe head in my back pocket (front pocket is more convenient, but I have stressed the probe a few times here at the strain relief when I stood up) I put a rubber *nipple* like cap on the working end of my probe to keep from scrubbing a hole through the tip. Was something I found laying around on the ground at work. I liked it, and knew it would come in handy someday, so I gave it a home :) You can find these (a little longer) at most CB or Trucker Shops....they use them as CAPS on their CB antennas and they come in differant diameters too. *Spit on the tip of your probe to help the cap slip on (or use soap) I also double wrapped a (long) shoe lace, and tied this into a loop, slipped the pocket probe clip over the necklace. So now I wear my pocket probe around my neck (this necklace idea I learned from this forum but now I can't find his post to give credit to his name) *Thank you....I was clipping it to my shirt collar-silly me. I also took a RubberBand and doubled it....then wrapped over probe plug (take off BNC then screw back on) next over the on/off switch *you can see the rubberband from both sides of the pocket probe* (Got my probe new the other day-first night I put back into box-it got turned on and drained battery overnight) * I seperated the -doubled- RB at the switch so that with just 1 of the bands touching the switch, I can turn on the probe and it Stays On (might need to prestretch rubberband a few times-then mount it if not loose enough to allow switch to stay on) Otherwise when I store it both pieces of RB on switch stops ANY bumps from turning it on (what a suckie switch). Underneath the 2 adjustment knobs I have added 2 (very small-one each) RB's (rubberbands) Spun these around underneath each knob many times (did not need to take off knobs) So NOW I have NO worries of BUMPING my controls OFF my adjustment setting with the friction provided. I got the very small RB's at K-mart. Are about big around as pinkie finger, and about 100 to the box. These are what the kiddies use on their hair I guess. Made of VERY good rubber.......super stretchy and thin. I use rubberbands to hold off my knobs on MOST of my metal detectors. Either using the small or standard sized rubberbands, twisted under the knobs. Sorry about picture quality. I used my cell phone. **Little off topic......left the park today after metal detecting with buddy. I put my Lesche digger on back bumper while putting my detector away by back window of his Bronco. I was talking to my buddy and forgot to get my Digger off the bumper. We got about a mile away and he turned a corner at the stop sign. I heard something fall out back. I looked back and saw my Lesche bouncing off the road!! My Buddy stopped and I ran 100 yards back to get it (pretty fast too) As I was running I saw 2 cars run over it, bouncing it up into the air again :( When I went to pick it up NOT a dent was on it, or was it bent :) I would say that's pretty good quality!!!

I cannot BELIEVE the performance of this 5/8" coil on the pocket probe!! Better than the fattie that SunRay puts out. But the SunRay is a wonderfull probe, only drawback on SunRay probes is that it's made for 1 machine type only of course :( * And not quite as DEEP as the UNIPROBE.

of course I use headphones that sit on my ears rather that the cupped kind. I only use my Sun Ray phones when it is cold. When it's hot I use some 10.00 radio shack phones plugged into an extender that has a volume control. I have no problem hearing everything with them and they are much cooler, and I can hear my PUP.

I got me a Golden today.

Still testing it agains my others for a 'comparisson' to what I remeber about yours.

About your UniProbe, you should have just sent it to me and I would have had it the way you wanted it.

I don't have a hearing problem I can guarantee you that. I hunt for EVP's (ghost voices) and I can hear even the "slighest voices" EVER imaginable in my recordings. Fact is that many of my peers cannot hear them until the audio is looped many times................so it isn't my ears :) The Pocket Uniprobe made by DetectorPro has a "suckie" speaker built into it.....wonderful pinpointer with an option of turning it into a "real deal" metal detector (overpriced option here though) . BUT don't depend on that piece of crap called a "speaker".

I use a single sided earpiece on mine, drop it into my headhphones(loose in the cup not in ear)as i put them on, works fine
