PLEASE HELP??? NEWBIE and OWN NO Detector

I have found things with my MXT in ground that I was SURE i had hunted out WITH my MXT. I'm pretty sure that doesn't make my MXT better then my MXT. Maybe it just means i'm learning my machine better, had it set up a little different, was digging more targets. The list goes on and on as to how that happens.

Howdy ShotDoctor67,
Ive had my MXT for a year now, and I have "The Edge Book"
Those 2 combined , I think I have the BEST setup I could have chosen.
You asked this question on the MXT forum, so I gather you are already "leaning towards the MXT.
That in itself ought to tell you something, .
My personal opinion, as an MXT owner, Go for it.
Not once have I felt like I made the wrong choice, and I do surf around , just for updated knowledge.
But, I have never used a Minelab.
Although , I have seen some really nice gold nuggets that were found with a Minelab,"deeper" than what the others were getting.

Go with your gut feeling, and either way, findmall has a forum for ya.
And let us know what you decide, even if it is a Minelab, "it's not like we discriminate" . We just love our MXT's.

Good Luck,
Dusty

P.S. Thanks Larry, for handling that in a Professional and well mannered way.

shotdoctor67------You sound like a person interested in this great hobby & trying to get info. so as to make an "informed decision" on a detector purchase---and I commend you for it.-----You have gotten very good answers/advice here from some very experienced detectorists in that regard.------I would just like to mention---I have made a post on the Metal Detecting Forum here on Findmall that might interest you entitled "On a serious note".----It has been responded to by some VERY experienced detectorists also.-----We ALL are (or should be) here to help/inform new people coming in to the hobby (make them aware of certain criteria) in order to keep this wonderful hobby alive & well.-----------God Bless, Del

I have used a few other machines & the MXT has been a snap to learn. The one thing that helped me was to go out with another hunter that had years of experience ( & he still uses a old beep & go machine) I had him tell me when he found a target & told me what he thought it was, I would then pass my coil over it & then we would dig. It gave me a lot of information on how my machine works. With in a year I was out preforming him most of the time. The learning curve of the MXT is basic, I know a few other md's that have the dfx and they never get out because they say that there is nothing to find. One hour with them & it was clear that they did not know how to set up & run their machine.

It is like a computer the simpler it is to use the more you will use it, if it is complicated & frustrating you will never turn it on.

shotdoctor67,

I was in the same boat you are in trying to make a decision. I've been researching for a couple of months now...talking to owners of several different models, scouring the forum here and talking to salespeople, etc. One thing I did realize is that it is hard to find a used MXT, which leads me to believe that people like them enough to keep em. FWIW, I just ordered an MXT Pro last weekend. I know that I made the right choice and can't wait to get it and get out MD'ing.

I think you answered your own question. "The MXT seems so much EASIER to run" It takes quite awhile to become really proficient with a metal detector. The MXT would be a great detector for someone just starting out and will serve them well for years to come.
