Pinpointing with the vision

pchop

New member
I have the vision bought it when it first came out, its # 004. My question is is anyone else having trouble pinpointing, by this I mean when i locate a target and go to pinpoint i have it on vco sometimes it wont make the audio sound and just the 3 bars will go up and glitchy. Its starting to happen alot. I tried it in other programs and it does the same thing. I been pinpointing just by watching the bars and waiting till the longest bar hits it peak. Thanks for any help

I had a problem like this, I decreased the sensitivity in all metal mode and it helped. Note that when switching between programs you will be switching to that programs sensitivity settings, so you will have to adjust it again. I tend to leave mine at about 50. If you are trying to pinpoint a very deep target, this setting may be too low, so you may need to bump it up in that case. I don't really get targets below 5 inches so this setting works for me universally. (Whites says that a lower AM sens mode will also help to reduce falsing in search mode, for some reason.)

Another potential solution is to go into the expert menu and turn ratchet "on". This helps the vision to take a big signal, which could overload the machine and make pinpointing difficult, and essentially shrinks the signal.

Probably the easiest solution if it is a near-surface target that is large enough to be causing some overload, but your settings are working for you for most of your hunt that day, is to lift the coil a few inches above the ground to pinpoint. This may decrease the "size" of the signal that the detector sees coming back from the target, allowing it to pinpoint without overloading.

What is your current all metal discrimination setting?

Thanks tater. i moved the all metal down to 50 and its still doing it. in pinpoint all the 3 frequencies bars will move like its pinpointing but it wont make no audio. i will try ratchet later and see if thats better. i dont remember it ever doing this to me before. i moved all metal up and down with no results. it doesnt do it all the time just a lot anymore. does it with all coils to. i went beach hunting the other day and it would locate the target and i would go to pinpoint and no audio so i had to go by the longest frequency bar to tell where the target was. thanks

Man, I'm sorry it didn't quite fix it. 99% of the time, tho somebody on here knows a fix, one of the guys with way more experience will know of something most likely. I hope you get it straightened around quick.

This is just so a symptom of signal overload though, it seems like somebody ought to be able to fix it. My detector is at whites and I reeeeeeally wish I had it, I won't send it in again unless I have another one to use, its an addiction!!

Here's one possible solution too - You say the problem has been getting worse over time. Is there a chance that you have had mineralized soil or salty sand slowly build up in your coil cover? Try dumping it out and see if that helps?

Tater.

Thanks for the help. I dont use a coil cover so that eliminates that lol. i`m going to send it in to whites when it gets colder. it is a addiction Tater. I got a email from ak and she said there is a updated version , i have 1.0 and i will send it in to have 1.3. she says there was a problem with the frequencies crossing and i believe canceling one if i remember correctly. I use the speaker and not headphones so she said if i use stereo headphones it will correct it. i will keep you posted after i get it back. thanks for the help .
