Pinpointing with the Ace 250. My first video also. I hope this helps!!! :detecting:

From the land of the Bluenose.....very well done sir and should help. If I can't locate another Freedom 3 Plus getting another yellow fellow which I sold before I got to use!

Once you have detuned it, have you ever tried to push the coil the other way. Most times the signal drops off at the centre of the coil. this delivers the target directly into the cut out in the middle. Just a thought.
Mick. Evans.

My experience is that if you detune and push the coil away - the signal is the same distance from the 6 o'clock position as it was at the 12 o'clock position. I could have done better on the video. It was my first try at a youtube video. I would like to make another one and perform some editing and make it look more professional. I was rushing the video because of the recent posts on newbies having some troubles. I don't like it if someone gives up on the 250 because they can't locate a target.

ummmm erm,
Well didn't actually get it fixed.
Had to get a new one and took the plunge into broadband as well.
:clapping:
:cheers:m8

That vid is a great help. Thanks.
The only secret tip I see is the band holding the cable on the shaft. I couldn't see the probe that well.
Thanks again for the tips.

Tip 1 is like you said - the coil cable. Run the cable strait up the shaft for at least a foot before you start winding it. But I like ran strait all the way up with one small loop at the control head held to the shaft with a velcro strap. Tip 2 is I ground the probe shaft down except for the end. This way you only pushing the very end into the ground. (Less resistance)

Yep. That's very thoughtful of you Kenny. It makes a huge difference if folks can see how it's done. using the instruction manual alone can create some major confusion. i think a lot of new folks will be helped by it. i remember how John from Edmonton posted some details before I bought mine, and the difference it made to me.
Mick Evans.

I'm only passing on what I too learned from here. I have always detuned my targets but only ran concentric coils. So it was real easy. I started out on the 250 detuning and pinpointing at the center of the coil. I have great success with that method also.

Whatever works. :) THat's what I usually do. You can buy a new one for what it takes to fix the old one. Our wonderful throw away society.

what is the point of running the cable straight up?

The coil is so sensitive it picks up the slightest movement of the cable and falses. The top of the coil detects just like the bottom of the coil.

I wonder i this is why I get signals that just are NOT there. I ned to try this out see if it remedies that

Running too high of sensitivity will make it false also. Try the coil wire trick. Then if you still get falsing reduce your sens.

as far as sensitivity, I normally run it at the factory setting when it is turned on, which I think is either 3 or 4
