Pinpointers ... what are your current recommendations?

Since I've been nearly all water and beach detecting for a few years and decided to detect the yard at my new home only to find that both my several years old Garrett pinpointers did nothing when I put known good batteries into them; I quickly learned again that I sure could use a good pinpointer when detecting the dirt.
What is a good performing pinpointer that you all would recommend that is on the market today?

That is very odd neither would work. Is know good battery the same as fresh alkaline? They need around 8V to operate.

Tried two different new alkaline batteries then put the meter on them; checked OK then popped both batteries into the CZ6A and it worked fine. Cleaned the battery contacts on the pinpointers and still nothing. The pinpointers sat in a humid basement unused for several years. They were stored without batteries in them. I had a Detector Pro pinpointer too that would power up and sound on targets but the switch was so flaky that it was not really usable.

What pinpointer do you like?

ive got an older makro pinpointer ive had for years that i like, before that it was a whites trx which i still have but doesnt work right

I prefer the Garrett AT by far. It is close to ideal for me. I would recommend send your two into Garrett for repair. They are very reasonable on price IF they charge you at all.

When I got my xp deus metal detector I got a mi-6 pinpointer with it. The mi-6 pinpoint I can use it to locate targets at a good distance and I feel that it is a Great pin pointer to use with any other metal detector. Check it out.

I have the fpulse seem to work fine very deep helps a little. Pulse induction seems well built. I believe the Garrett is 12 kHz. Not sure . I bought mine for work at sallt water beaches to help recovery even though I use a scoop. It works well with the 800.

I have three different pin pointer's the original Garrett Pro Pointer purchased in 2009, the Fisher F Pulse and the Nokta/Macro Pulse Dive kit that came with a land based pin pointer and a Loop for detecting under water the Nokta/Macro Pulse Dive kit is the one I would recommend to you since you said you detect in the water mostly, I do not detect in water but, I have read that a lot of divers like the Pulse Dive kit
the Pulse Dive kit is a PI (pulse induction) pin pointer and totally water proof, the Fisher F Pulse is the same pin pointer as the Tek point and both those are also PI (pulse Induction) pin pointers, the Garrett's are VLF pin pointers
this is the Pulse Dive kit I have and is my favorite pin pointer kit

As much as every one liked the Whites TRX, looks like some one would make a pinpointer like it. It detected on the tip, not on the sides , that way you could find the target, ease . With other pointers that detect on the side, if you miss the target at the top you still get a hit at the bottom of the hole. Please someone make a good pinpointer.

If you don't like current offerings the old one from fisher is fine only detects at point and you can shove it since nice and slim. Good for only an inch and half but serves it purpose . Helps find them in the side of holes. Still like my first vintage f pulse though

TVR. I had the same problem with one of my garrett pro pointers. I took it to my dealer and he put a small piece of felt in the cap. That put a bit more pressure on the battery forcing it down to make better contact with the terminals. Been working ever since...hhrickinmi

Mine did the same, after useing them it gets flat, i use the round things that you put on tables to keep from marking floors. good fit and same size as cap on pinpointer. You can get them at Walmart for $2, or $3 for a pack of 30 0r 40. Work good.

Garrett Carrot. Knock wood, no problems, had it since it came out. Before that the regular Garrett . . before that and the crappy Whits Bullseye. before that, dirt over the coil.
I like the Carrot the best.
