PINPOINTER OPINIONS??

Hi David,if you haven't odered your pinpointer yet,I have a suggestion. Why don't you do yourself a favor and the sponsor's of this forum and order from one of them, instead of Amazon.. The price will be the same and the sponsor's will appreciate the business. Good luck with your decision, Gary

Just hard to beat the Uniprobes. They are sensitive at the tip so you can tell when you have passed the target. Go deep and come with a good pair of headphones. If thats too much for your pocket book you can get the Pocket Uniprobe and run it inline into your headphones with a stereo y-splitter.

Good luck,

Mike

Maybe some quality control issues with the Cen-Tech from Harbor Freight?

Or maybe I just got a dud.

Because I sure never got 2" - 2.5" on coin sized objects when I used one.

Picked up two more today at harbor frieght and you're right. These two can barely must 1". I'll be taking extra care of the other one.

Cheap Asian made products often have quality control issues.

Maybe the answer is to tweak the ground balance pot?

I am looking for a pinpointer also. I was looking at the Bounty Hunter Pinpointer and is this a good unit for around $50.00 or less? After all my reviews the best one appears to be the detecter pistol probe. But it's not cheap!!!

I got the garret propointer about 2 weeks ago.So far,I have been very pleased with it.It does react to my metal trowel,so I have to be careful when pinpointing(broke the plastic one that came with it in 3 days!).I have been experimenting with detuning and feel that I have pretty well figured it out(if there is any other metal around it will pick it up).It is very durable and easy to clean(I use a garden hose on the jet nozzle)and overall I am very pleased with it.See original post for pointers I have used in the past.DBULL

Since it picks up small targets at 1.5 to 2 inches and big targets at 6 inches you'll find more things in you hole than expected. Yesterday I dug an iffy signal belltone Wheatie. I first probed the top of the ground to see if I could hear the target. It was silent so I knew it was at least 3 inches deep. So I flipped a 3 inch deep flap. I checked the hole and it was in the hole. I dug another 3 inched deep to find a rusty piece of iron about 1/4 a 2 inches long. So I then probed the plug. The Wheatie was in the bottom of the plug. This is exactly why iffy targets should be dug time permitting. The Ace 250 was able to give me a hint of a good signal setting on top of junk.

If all you can afford is a cheapie, I won't ague that the Harbor Freight Cen-Tech job is better than nothing.

But if you can afford a little over $100 the Garrett Pro-Pointer is worth twice the price.

It's that good.
