Pinpoint mode Question

Anyone know whats the reason that when you are in pinpoint mode and you lay the detector down on the ground it sometimes goes from a silent noise to a constant hum noise as if its gotten out of adjustment with the ground balance and when you do back into disc. mode it fixes it up.
 
Hi Pete, I messed up on my first response. I don't know why it does that but I've just gotten into the habit of switching back to discriminate mode before setting it down, otherwise it drives you nuts. HH Coinshooter65

What a most annoying "feature". I read a few months ago somewhere that the original reason behind that little black "stand" that assembles with your coil was introduced to help overcome this problem when you lay the detector down.
I could not stop the detector from doing this all the time so I made it so as I could "feel" the PINPOINT button.
I have a control box cover with the clear screen and I have placed a "blob" of silastic and let it dry and go hard to about the size of two Aussie one cent pieces on top of each other,on the PINPOINT button area. It needs to be a hard, raised large "dot", basically.
This allows me two feel for this button rather that actually "visually" look for it on the control box it after I have layed my detector down and aside. It is actually very handy and easy to get used to.The fact that the blob of silastic is "glued" to the clear screen cover means that you leave the detector in original condition. Silastic is very easy to remove but strong enough to remain on a surface that has been cleaned properly . I sure this will help.

So basically the easiest thing to do after you have pin pointed to switch it back and then there isnt gonna be any problems COOL.
 
I do not know the reason but if you get the X1 probe you will be in the right mode when you set it down. But the next problem is, you have to remember to switch it back to the coil after you retreve your target.
