Pin pointing without Audio

Don't be hard on the guy, he just needs some instruction, or at least watch the DVD again. We were all new to the V once and made some mistakes along the way, but I have to agree, pinpointing is detecting 101.

Your right we have all been there at one time or another. The video has been pulled. It just ticks me off to see Whites detectors getting a bad wrap when we know that they stand behind their product 150%.

So I have a question.....

Why do we insist on trying to find user error or blame settings, coils etc. ????

This is a quirk with the V3i.

As I stated earlier - I'm using STOCK settings. Though I first noticed it with the 10x12 I tested the D2 today and got the same issue.

I've been detecting 13 years. I consider myself fairly experienced. I can pinpoint with the best of them. I have no problems pinpointing with any other machine, including the V3 before the i update.

It's not always as simple as resetting the machine by moving off the target and trying again. Somtimes you need to try again 10 or more times.

All of that said, its not very common and I consider it a minor quirk. I'll take it over my ETracs faulty VDI readings any day.

So I pulled the video off the host site today after getting emails from a forum member. He sounded upset about it, but of course that was not my intention. I was simply trying to put into video what was not clear in words, At least to me. I will say that many posts later, and after much reading and re-reading, testing and trial and error, and a couple of counseling lesson with Fox and Robert on the white's forum, that most all is well with pinpointing with the V3i. It will on occasion quiet over a target but still show active bar movement, but it is rare at this point.

I was asked by the one person who left the comments if I worked for the competition. Although I can only guess as to who the competition would be, I am sure they would not employee such an easy to spot operator error as their weapon of choice.

Where I live there is No one with a V3i except one, and he was not interested in contacting me. That is why I went to the forum.

After being alerted to the concern over the video, I noted it had over 400 hits so decided this was not the best advertising for Whites and pulled the plug.

The posts that I made over the pinpointing and the many responses made have at least helped me understand the V3i better, and it brought to light several good questions and answers that have made my understanding of how the detector works grow. To me this is the essence of the forum that I posted on. I have not spent much time on this forum, so cannot have an opinion yet.

Burlbark, thanks for sending me the comments,

And HH to you all.

:clapping: I am glad I did not get you upset.... I am not always level headed. I hope you enjoy the new found knowledge and stick with it. I found my oldest coin today... 1876 Which is pretty old around here. My first week with the v3i was not a whole lot of fun. Come to think of it, my first month was pretty rough.

I found things but could not understand why they where not all silver or gold..:lmfao:

Welcome to the Findmall Forums Smack, I hope you will stick around. My apologies for us using your video as an example on this forum, although it is an ideal way for us to know what someone is doing wrong when they ask us for help. We need to do more video on this forum to not only pass along the good points of the V but it makes diagnosing problems a lot easier as well.

I'm sure you know how to pinpoint now, but for others..............after you get a target hit, move your coil off to the side of your target and wait for your threshold to return just like you would do in the analyze mode. THEN move your coil back over the target finding the highest tone pitch with VCO on, or continue to X the target with VCO off.

Thanks for joining us Smack.

Sorry about your trouble with the video it was not my attention to cause you trouble. I was just that the V was getting a bad name because of the pin pointing problems. If you re read the posts you will see Larry and I didn't make light of your problems. as Larry said stick around and post your finds. As you see the video didn't help the guys it was intended to quiet. Rob

I have to ask it anyone using a concentric coil (9.5) is seeing this lose of audio on pin point. I was talking to an independent expert yesterday and was told that 2 other major brands have the problem and it is related to DD VCO in their case. So if you use concentric coils let me know your experience.

Nice to be here and no worries.

It is a a process, and getting stuck in a rut like I did with PP questions has helped me understand the V3i much better. I have already started finding silver with this machine and love the "on the fly" adjustments that I can do.

One of my other interests is video, so watch out, you may see some "good" hunts.

 Thanks Smack, video says so much more than words.

The way this whole thing has shook down is why this forum is the best. Kudos to all and big welcome to you Smack! Looking forward to your videos!
